Tarasenko broke out in his third NHL year too with a 37 goal season - the difference is, he was 22/23 (December birthday), and Pasta only turned 20 this summer (May birthday). What a player.

Guy is absolutely on fire... Suspension, injuries, nothing can slow him down.

Second in goals in the NHL despite being SEVEN games behind the next two... Only guy above him is Crosby who is eight games behind.

He's going to be an elite player and this is the first year of his reign. ;)

I knew Pasta was a special player when he first came into the league. His talent is undeniable. What a shot this kid has developed.

I think just about everyone saw this. We should've locked him long-term awhile ago. We're definitely going to have to give him some big money this off-season.

Which is one of several reasons I hate the Backes deal.

It doesn't kill you in year one. It may in subsequent years, though.

I'd have punted on this off season.

lets hope he signs that deal

Tough for a 21 year old RFA coming off a hot year to instantly demand more than a Bergeron/Marchand... Bergeron is one of his captains and will have his number retired. Marchand has been a core member for years, and he was a major part of us winning the Cup in his rookie year.

Wouldn't be surprised if he wants a bridge deal, although that's the second worst case scenario for us, behind him leaving. But RFAs off their ELC don't have a lot of leverage, just look at Trouba this year. But from all accounts he's a very mature kid and a budding leader. Has put in all of the work required of him from day 1 and then some, and its paying off. But isn't his agent the same as Hamilton/Kessel/other troublesome RFA/UFAs over the past few years? That can be trouble, I guess.

We can't afford to lose him more than anything. With Seguin, at least our team was still good and we had two #1Cs. We're paying the price now for sure, not even considering the fact that his potential absolutely exploded, but it was at least somewhat "understandable", albeit shortsighted. There were serious doubts about Hamilton's potential and he wanted out, but his departure put our D corps in a scramble it is currently still in, but we're getting better. If Pasta goes... that's gotta just be the back breaker for the fans and the players. We're not just going to be handed high draft picks that gave us Seguin/Hamilton again, and by statistics we likely won't get a player of his caliber at 16-25 again. This is one they can't screw up and hopefully they learned their lesson... If they haven't they never will.

I can see Pasta easily settling for a 3 or 4 year deal at between 3.5/4.25. Ive said this before, but Pasta really doesnt seem like the kinda guy thats going to try bend his team over a barrel, hes so innocent. He knows hes good, Sweeney knows hes good, in a few years the big pay day will come. I think it happens sooner rather than later.

Not trying to troll around or anything but I seriously think Spooner could take some notes on Pastrnak's grit. Pastrnak has been grinding it out on the boards and in front of the net and it has helped his game tremendously. Meanwhile, I still see Spooner getting easily out muscled just about everywhere.

Who is his agent and what is the history of said agent with the Bs?

If it's still Ales Volek, I don't think he has much of a history with the Bs. His company deals with Czech players only I think. However, Pasta could have hired a new agent by now.

Pasta also gave up off-season in his home country in order to stay here and work out with Whitesides in order to put on muscle. That extra muscle is obviously preventing him from getting knocked off the puck this year, and has apparaently raised his confidence and grit. Say what you want about Spooner, but "put on muscle" does not seem too high on his priority list.

David Pastrnak is in line for a long-term extension
This is a good time for David Pastrnak to play the lottery.

Pastrnak is benefiting from good luck. Such fortune puts a bad-angle fling, like the one he whipped on the Tampa Bay goal in Sunday’s third period, off Ben Bishop’s pad, off Tyler Johnson’s right foot, and into the back of the net.

On the other hand, Pastrnak could be striking his own version of megabucks in short order.

Pastrnak is in the final season of his three-year, entry-level contract with the Bruins. He is earning the standard barebones annual salary of $925,000 — a tidy sum for any 20-year-old, but a fraction of what will be landing in his checking account soon.

Again, what a steal at 26th in 2014.

Sweeney will regret that he didn't extend him as soon as he could have last July. Will cash up on his next deal.

Will form a very good duo of top-end wingers with Marchand for the next few years.

He scoring at a 63 goal pace right now.

Now let's say he stays healthy and settles in around the 40 mark (not unrealistic at this juncture).

How many 40 goal scorers settle for less than 4 million a season. Considering last year there were only two guys who cracked 40 goals. One guy is getting 10.5, the other is about to get 9.5.

I'm not saying Pasta will command those kind of numbers, but he pops 40 before the age of 21, and the identical contract to Marchand starts to look like a bargain.

If he gets close to 40, his comparable (coming off ELC with 37 goals) would be Tarasenko. He got 8 @ 7.5.

Taransenko didn't sign his ELC until he was 20, so he was a bit older when he got his extension. He also was a little more proven as he had topped 20 goals in 60 odd games the season before he hit 37.

But, if I am Pasta's agent, that's where I start negotiating from.

In my experience, you can't teach a fearless mentality - you either have it or you don't. Pasta's life experience might have something to do with it also.

With that said, Spooner has visibly been trying harder in this department but it's just not in his nature. He's of the same mould as Krecji and expecting him to be anything different won't help him or the team.

While it is quite true that (as my Dad used to say) "You can't teach balls", that doesn't give one a pass when they don't have them. I sort of disagree with Krejci. He may be cerebral, but the guy doesn't shy from contact, and he's even dropped the gloves a couple times. Spooner tries, I'll give him that, but you are right, it's just not in his nature.

I think those 2 have to play together, they are just smarter puck wise then everyone else other then Krejci or Krug. They play the game the same quick level and read what each other will do with the puck. Think Kane\Panarin to a lesser dergree of course. Give them Beleskey to bang bodies and take care of the back check. Bergy and Marshy can have Backes he plays their cycle game better and Marshy wants to carry the puck anyways, let Backes crash the net and keep Bergy away from the banging. Krech can have Vatrano and Schaller. Moore, Hayes and Nash.

Thank you, that gave me a starting point but nothing more definitive. Their 'client list' doesn't seem to have many NHL guys on it, my plan was to compare those players to my perception of their deals but Pasta seems like the proverbial diamond in the rough.
