Four drafts, four free agency periods (though, one slightly shortened), four trade-deadlines, zero improvement in the standings.
Stop alluding to it and tell us what it is.
I actually don't remember you being right about a single thing... ever.
I'm saying in Burke's tenure in Vancouver, we had a rotating door of mediocre goalies and goaltenders of the future. Same song and dance in Toronto. Your fans deserve better.
firing Burke was justified but by not removing anyone else and handing the keys to his right hand man essentially accomplishes nothing

I guess my thing with Burke is that I was happy with what he had done after the Kessel deal season.
Once Burke realized that his initial evaluation of the team was incorrect he began to sell of pieces like Beauchemin, Versteeg etc. He made moves for picks and prospects, and built an AHL team that is now a perennial contender and a decent young core for this team.
Its sad that a guy like Tambellini who finishes 30, 30 and 29 still has his job, while Burke, a guy who made some very good moves is out of a job.
Burke should go take over Edmonton, watch what he can do with a team with that much young talent. He'd have them surrounded with veteran pieces capable of making a run in no time.
Way to go Rogers/Bell. This is a terrible decision at the worst possible time.
I guess we shouldn't be surprised as this is Rogers and Bell we're talking about. They can't even run their own businesses properly!
If anyone was going to make a BAD DEAL for Luongo it was BURKE not Nonis who said he builds patiently.
He also mentioned how they didn't use the justified reasons though. And really didn't give anyone a reason, nor are any of the board commenting on said reasons. They all made a decision and ran and hid.
Burke was entering the last stages of his current contract and with is lack of success to date, and mounting pressure now, but in a lame duck GM position to succeed, might have caused valid concern at MLSE that he would make moves to saves his own job at the expense of what ids best for the franchise going forward.
This situation can be very dangerous and harmful to the organization, so they nipped it in the bud prior to the trade season opening and more potential damaging moves were coming down the pipeline in short order.
Timing is perfect by MLSE if that was a valid concern of the board of directors to protect the assets of the organization.

Leafs have been a bottom 10 (often bottom 5 team) under Burke and he was embarrassing the organization top to bottom with his antics and failures, making the Leafs a laughing stock. MLSE considers themselves a flagship NHL organization and loyal fan base and this level of failure was simply just no longer tolerated..

The problem is he had the window to add lottery pick talent and instead traded it away, we will not be seeing that kind of talent in the draft for some time again. Imagine if Pittsburgh traded the picks for Crosby and Malkin so they could add a Phil Kessel or Chicago with Toews and Kane. Yes it was 1 mistake but sometimes 1 big mistake is all it takes to cost your job.
