A few notes from a Canucks fan:
A) Nonis, despite his demeanor, is no push over. He was under immense pressure to make a splash by acquiring Brad Richards. Nonis stuck to his guns and the Canucks kept Kesler and Edler, much to the benefit of the Canucks. He is quieter than Burke, but so is a wood chipper.
B) His drafting record is, to be blunt, poor. Raymond and Grabner are the only two payers that had any impact in his 3 drafts. Of course, he also drafted the late Luc Bourdon, so who knows what could have been. Patrick White, is by far, his most spectacular drafting fail.
C) He deserves this shot. He was a bit of a victim to an ownership change in Vancouver, now he is a beneficiary.
D) Is he more "corporate"? Sure, but just because he is more agreeable doesn't make him any better or worse than Burke. Nonis has worked for Burke for most of his career, they share many of the same philosophies on the game. Nonis is more conservative and pragmatic but they both want the same type of team. I don't think your team is any worse off or better because of this move. It's a personality shift, not a philosophy change. Whether that's a good thing or not depends on how you feel about the last 4 seasons.
Hoping for the Leafs to make the playoffs, regardless of whether Luongo is in net for your team. It's more fun when the big Canadian markets like Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are in the post season. For what it's worth, if you do manage to steal Luongo, your chances of making the post season increase immeasurably.
