I go away for a few months come back its like ground hog day. Same discussion, same people over and over and over.

Striker "you don't agree with me so you are a liar"
Deadhead "honestly tries to be civil and support his position"
Rebel "you don't agree with me so your stupid"
Deadhead "honestly tries to be civil and support his position"
CDP "some curious tangential reference in an attempt at humor"
Deadhead "honestly tries to be civil and support his position"

People feel this way about deadhead and Ghosts Beer en masse because they both present contrary opinions, that usually defend bad employees/decisions or attack our best players, then consistently shift goalposts, utilize logical fallacies, and present hypocritical arguments when probed. In other words, baiting. That and they are always doing it and the only ones who consistently do it. It’s not a coincidence that deadhead is a lawyer (or as he claims).

If you go away for months at a time I don’t know how you could think you know what goes on on the boards. Granted, Striiker reads kind of condescending, but you’re acting like it’s just him that feels this way about deadhead when it’s literally the majority of the regulars on here that do. Except some of us have him blocked now whereas Striiker refuses to.

Really confused why CDP got thrown in there. Goofy son of a bitch is as non-argumentative, non-threatening, and friendly as anyone.

Actually, that's a pile of crap.

The real problem is there is a "homer" hive mind here that overrates the players they like, hates the HC, tries to pretend the GM didn't choose and keep the HC, and basically live in fantasy land. I don't love the coach, but facts are facts, the coach got 96 and 98 points out of a rebuilding team and took them to the playoffs 2 of 3 seasons. You can do the WH spin, and present "alternative facts" and pretend that "truth isn't truth" but you're not fooling me.

Ghost Beer tries too hard, I don't argue, I just present facts (the facts aren't disputed, only the implications, yes, Ghost and Giroux haven't produced in the playoffs, but it's the coach's/other players'/God's fault). I've learned not to wrestle with the pig.

People don't like the facts I present, tough. I'm not here to coddle your "homer" delusions, I'm here for fun and discussion.
And when 12 year olds insult me, well, I just hope Mommy puts them to bed at a decent hour. :sarcasm:

Nah, but it sounds like fun.
I'd have liked Burning man the first few years, but now it's just for rich SF yuppies.

It's hard to find real bohemian spots in America, the "wannabees" soon commercialize it and take away the magic.

So I saw Dead and Co this weekend, what's your favorite song by them?

What are the facts?

Up to that point TK had blown numerous scoring chances (6% shooting percentage, and it wasn't bad luck but bad shooting), he was rushing shots, forcing passes when he should have shot, and playing erratic defense.

TK was a good fit with Laughton, in a role where he learned to forecheck and get his head on straight. On a deep, talented team like the Flyers should be in 2020-21, he'd have spent a couple years on 3rd/4th line duties (like Couts and JVR when they started, or like Farabee, Frost and O'Brien in the future), and worked his way into the top six.

TK would have probably been better off if they could have sent him to the AHL for his rookie season, Guentzel, who has certainly played as well or better (leading playoff scorer in pp/60 the last three years), played 3 years in college, a half season in the AHL and came up at age 22 and hit the ground running. TK was in that limbo where he lacked the hockey IQ and good fundamentals for the NHL, but was too talented for junior hockey. He needed time to grow up.

TK took off when he played with G and Couts, but Voracek had similar numbers when he was playing with them, the difference is Voracek had solid metrics playing off the top line (i.e., his scoring was pulled down by linemates - he was making the plays, they weren't finishing), whereas the metrics and eyes showed that TK played like a 3rd/4th line winger when he wasn't on the 1st line - he needed a center like Couts to cover for him and veterans to keep him in line (which he has said they do).

We've seen this with B Schenn, who played up (or down) to his linemates, but didn't raise their game.
The difference is by 25 Schenn was what he was, at 21 TK has plenty of time to round out his game.

Filppula did get the puck away from two defenders, but Striiker can't give him credit even when the video demonstrates he's making stuff up.

Giroux was a monster playoff performer from 2009-12 at the age of 22-24. But that was a LONG time ago.

If we skip 2015-16, we have two playoff series in the last five years 2013-14, 2017-18:
He was certainly not a monster in either series. He was solid, but nothing special.
In those 13 games he stood out once. 3 points in game 6 against the Rangers at home, which the Flyers won. 13g 3-6 9 -8

So it's been 7 years since he was a top playoff performer. And that's a FACT.

The Flyers are not going to the Cup on Giroux's shoulders, it will be players like Provorov, Patrick, TK and Hart who will carry this team, or not.

Voracek in his last 20 playoff games 3-5 8 -5, Simmonds 20g 4-5 9 -3, Ghost 12g 2-1 3 -8

Was here to talk hockey. This board used to be filled with knowledgeable Flyer fans who enjoyed talking about hockey in a civil manner. Understandably most have left or no longer post. I'll check back in a few months to see if it has improved.

I'll never understand* two things about this.

1. Is Dan Hakstok, really, really worth all this effort to bend over backwards to find excuses for? Seriously?

2. The anti-Hive posters seem to be in such a bad mood about the Hive - but doesn't it seem like we are having a ****load of fun in the Hive? Does it really seem better to get in pointless contrary arguments for no reason whatsoever than it would be to join in and pile on? Seriously?

* I actually do understand the nature of contrarians - I was speaking rhetorically.

I've long advocated for a festival where we dig a hole in the woods and then drink in it in utter silence but nobody else wants to do that.

I “try too hard?”

Yeesh, deadhead, I defend you often, but you’re the guy who is known for writing novels. Not sure you should accuse anyone else of trying too hard.

So I saw Dead and Co this weekend, what's your favorite song by them?

I've never seen the post-Dead groups, but I have my share of bootlegs of their performances.
Mayer is the best fill-in for Garcia they've found.
I go way back to the early 1970s, got to see Pigpen once before he died, and did the grand East Coast tour in 1973.

Favorite songs include Dark Star, St Stephen, That's It For the Other One, ChinaCat/I Know You Rider, Morning Dew, Playing in the Band, Loser, The Wheel, Uncle John's Band, New Speedway Boogie, Cumberland Blues.
