100% thisI've always found that defensive responsibility bull****. In reality there is an age/size limit for defensive responsibility with Hakstol. Players like Manning, Lethera and Filppula had as many mistakes as anyone on the team. Yet, many of those players wouldn't miss a shift.
I understand trying to teach young players to be smart with the puck, but not taking minutes away from the biggest perpetrators sure doesn't set the best example for those youngsters who get benched for the slightest turnover. If Hak benched everyone equally, then I'd be more understanding. Age bias and "doing the work" is pretty indicative of a dinosaur.
100% this
If Hak was consistent with his “accountability”, I’d have no problem with it.
Even among players of the same NHL experience, there was zero consistency. Hagg was worse than Sanheim in all 3 zones and yet he didn’t get healthy scratched and he played a ton.
But when you play favorites - and your favorites are the worst players on the team - you cant use the accountability justification anymore. They didn’t get scratched or benched because they needed to work on their defense. They got punished because he doesn't like skill.
Local UND Mouthpiece said:You have to be a reliable player to play for Hakstol. He does take potential into equation, but he also places importance on performance as well. During the 2010-11 season, Hakstol dressed an undrafted, unheralded kid named Carter Rowney instead of a drafted, highly touted kid named Mike Cichy several times. There was some talk among fans at that time about playing Rowney over Cichy, but as we watched Rowney win the Stanley Cup this summer, we now know Hakstol was making the right call.
I always go back to this article: The North Dakota perspective on Dave Hakstol’s tenure, so far, as Flyers head coach. I’ll cut out one of the important bits for you. Don’t put yourself through the pain of 1,000 words comprised of mostly clichés.
Doomed.
Doomed.
And as 1C in playoff elimination games.Reminder....We had Filppula on the #1 PP unit as the slot guy for a month last year, to start the season.
Good times.

Which end of spectrum looks like the better group?Speaking of the PP, I came across this visualization in my travels.
Tableau Public
The Scoring Efficiency is nice and backs up the eye test about PP1, but I absolutely love the PP Structure Index tab.
From the same Tableau, I'll save everyone the trouble of navigating it, but I couldn't help but post this screenshot:
There's a new Hit King contender on the roster!
What did the Vegas odds say about Giroux hitting 100+ points?
How about Couts hittin 70+?
How about Ghost?
How about TK?
How about Provy?
How about Voracek?
Did they guess those performances? Probably not. That's why the team overshot the projection, but still undershot their potential, thanks to being held back by the coach. Based on how their top guys played and how hard they carried, this team should have had more points than they did. End of story.
Hakstol threw away points by making mistakes. That's clear as day to 95% on this board, and it has nothing to do with bias. In fact, bias is the only way that isn't seen as fact.
take note Hakstol you ****ing idiot. this guy just took his team (with a less talented roster) to the Cup final and won coach of the year.
"I'm not holding my players accountable for making mistakes. If you're worried about making mistakes you're not going to play a good game."
**** Hakstol and the way he treats the kids on this team.

Yes, the Flyers are better than 12th overall, talent-wise.They finished 12th in the league.
Do you think they are better than 12th overall in the league talent-wise?
Gallant was an actual quality NHLer. Hakstok was a joke and a bum. Andy Bezeau took care of his ass and his sorry broken ass landed in North Dakota. How we got stuck with his dud dimwitted skull****ed broken ass is anyone's guess. Right, Brett? Idiot. Anyway, Gerard knows how to talk to men like they are men because he was an actual player. Hakstok is butt-sore because he stank and failed miserably, in addition to getting his teeth kicked in by Le Grande Bezeau, so he has to act all hard. B***h, please.
Which end of spectrum looks like the better group?
I would pay Andy Bezeau to come to Philly & beat up Hakstol again for old times sake.
What's that kid's name, the one who got shunned - Mike Cichy or some ****? He could coach the PK and Lappy could get a job as a backstop at some batting cage.
Saw a poster say that all teams have a half dozen good players, so out of curiosity I looked at the total points of the top 6 scorers of each team. (Obviously this doesn't take other things into account, like defensive ability, but I was still interested to see where teams ranked)
Tampa Bay - 345
Philadelphia - 325 (but are ranked 12th in GF/GP, so obviously there's an issue with depth scoring)

Washington - 295
Florida - 293
Calgary - 291
Minnesota - 278
Colorado - 278

New Jersey - 229
Anaheim - 213
Detroit - 212
New York - 211
