Dang, a lot of B's fans do not like Julien, and also did not like Chia either. I guess it goes to show you start losing a little bit and the sharks come out no matter what the fanbase.

Linden said coach Desjardins will "definitely be back" next season. #Canucks

Take the Canucks off the list of teams going to be looking for a new coach.

Speaking of trainwrecks...man Vancouver is gonna be hella-bad next season.

Sedins one year older, Miller one year older...no real A-level prospects.

I guess they'll pay Lucic $10 million a year to come home and call it an offseason.

Every fanbase gets pissed off at the coach if things aren't going well. Common complaints about Julien were similar to other coaches; lean on the veterans too much, plays "not to lose," different standards for young players etc.

Same song, different dance.

Julien would love a good ole GSN line. I obviously want him because our team needs structure and better special teams, but I don't think Julien is the be all end all of this team.

We could perform much better with a variety of different coaches.

lol I doubt Lucic wants to play there, remember that bar fight he got into in Van after the finals. Good times.

Yeah, but coaches aren't allowed to use sticks during the games..

Alfredsson has forgotten more about hockey than Cameron has ever known.

Also excelled both at PK & PP in his active career, something Ottawa has no clue about.

Do you honestly think that we would be worse with him, than we were this season? With the right assistants, I bet he would do wonders here.

Great player, great leader, great captain, huge heart, loves Ottawa, knows most of the players, extensive hockey knowledge on the absolute highest level. Highly respected in the league, which would help when trying to sign UFA:s etc.

Yeah.

I'm serious, Alfie (AKA God), is my pick.

Setting the bar high I see. Alfie was one of the most intelligent hockey PLAYERS I have ever been privileged to watch but he has no qualifications whatsoever to be given the coaching job on this team (or any team in the league for that matter).

Roy didn't have much experience before he got the shot, and as a skater (as opposed to a goalie) I'm certain that Alf would bring a lot more to the position than Roy has.

Hewould also come relatively cheap, as far as head coaches go, which would fit this organization perfectly...

Nobody knows the exact reason that we kept hiring inexperienced coaches. We are always quick to blame "the internal budget", but really, could it possibly be that Murray never wanted to hire a big name coach???? Maybe Murray was worried about his job security, since he was the head coach that replaced John Muckler? Seems likely that Murray wanted a "puppet" that he could control. Much easier to do that when you hire these inexperienced coaches.

This is such a ridiculous sentiment.
It has nothing to do with him wanting a "puppet" to control. Bryan Murray spent his entire career giving people their first opportunity - just look at his track record.

Roy coached for years in junior and basically built a dynasty there. Alfie has coached nothing, anywhere, at any level.

Roy at least coached Major Junior. On a very successful team too (Quebec) Alfie has never coached before anywhere..

Roy had a great junior coaching resume.

Alfie has never coached a day in his life.

LOL. Roy coached 8 full seasons in the QMJHL. And he was generally a winner. Not to be sneezed at. Even then he's not a very good NHL coach, IMO. He had one season where his goalie and lady luck made his team decent. He's been poor since despite numerous top 3 picks.

Alfie has always been a favourite of mine but no way should he be made the head coach of a sane NHL team. He might be good in a special assistant's role though.

Ottawa unless it becomes a disaster
Jeeze is there anyone on earth more monotone and unemotional than Alfie? He doesn't really strike me as the coach type. The guy was great for us and it's fantastic having him back in the org, but I wouldn't want him within a mile of the coaches office.

Not entirely sure how reliable this guy is but he seems to cover the Bruins on talk radio in the area and produces some local ESPN stuff on the team

Lol.

That's hilarious man.

So if I'm right ...

Great player, great leader, well respected, etc = great coach.

THATS WHY ROY AND GRETZKY WERE/ARE SUCH GREAT COACHES.

If we hire Alfredsson as a HC I will flip the **** out. Not only no HC experience in the NHL, but no HC experience at all.

But we already know that won't happen since it would be insanity. Dorion probably wants the GM job more than a month.

This would be really great. I had serious doubts that we would spend that much on a coach but everything that has come out in the past few days supports the idea that Julien will be very seriously considered for the head coaching job. IMO this will be the most important move for the franchise in a long, long time. Maybe since the Anderson trade.

Hypothetically, how much term would you guys give Julien to start off with?

I probably would probably give him 3 or 4 years to start off with.

Melnyk was just on Tim and Sid and said he understands that what you spend reflects on the level of coach he will get. And that the 2-3M spent on a coach is easily replaceable if they make the playoffs.

Basically sounds like he's done screwing around and ready to commit to someone, even if it means a couple more dollars out then he would like.
