I am a #Melnyk-out guy as well, but I think you are reaching with this one.

I successfully watched the presser and then listened to the 1200 interview swapping Dorion and eugenes head. Both worked. Waaaaay too emotional.

The Craig Button TSN video - he seems pretty optimistic about the Sens.

He said they would have made the playoffs with a different (better) coach.

I'm not so sure. I think if we had a full year of Phaneuf we might have made the playoffs with or without a coaching change. I think with Phaneuf and a better coach we would have made the playoffs.

But I'm not so sure with just having a coaching change early on this season would have made the difference on its own (unless we're talking about an amazing, amazing coach).

Full year of Phaneuf = playoffs.
Add in a full year of MacArthur and a healthy Turris = playoffs with ease.
Add good coaching = division title? Maybe, it's a pretty weak division.

I usually don't like coach firings, but the special teams play -- the most coaching-dependant area -- was atrocious. If you're talented enough to be top 10 in scoring, there's no way you should be worst in goals against.

Shouldn't we have a fresh thread for this huge news?

Kind of confusing for people to have to find the right page where the firing discussion actually begins.

By the time the news broke and I got here, there was no new thread and discussion was already happening in here. Easier and more intuitive to just convert this thread.

Yes.

And things are happening in our division in our favour, at least for the next couple years.

Datsyuk is moving to the KHL and DET will be saddled with his cap hit.

The lightning are going to be eaten up by the cap to an extent and may have to retool.

The Bruins have Don Sweeny.

The Leafs will do their best to tank, though I expect them to not be dead last next season with Nylander and possibly Matthews leading the charge.

Buffalo is Buffalo. I expect them to be a bubble playoff team next season but they shouldn't be a big threat to us yet unless Eichel and Lehner go HAM.

Florida is probably the favourite in our division but have key pieces getting very old.

Montreal... Therrien.

The call for a different GM than Pierre Dorion because he is Bryan Murray 2.0 is complete BS.

That's my opinion.

Look at the draft record and the development record this team has...

Blowing up the management group would be a mistake.

PD will put his own stamp on the team but you can't expect it to happen in 48hrs.

As for the coaching change I'm 100% ok with it. This team was too slow out of the gates on 80% of the games. That's coaching. This team was horrible on the PP and PK, that's coaching.

I wouldn't be adverse to Jacques Martin coming back for a 2nd tour of duty. Yet Julien would be my 1st choice.

The Sens need to get better organized in their own zone. Julien and Martin would help tones in that dept. There weren't too many games this year where Ottawa actually out-shot its opponents. Big problem.

Marc Crawford has been out of the game for too long if you ask me. Not an option.

This team is not far off. IT was top 10 in scoring and yet was horrible on the PP. HAD the team been avg on the PP this team would have easily been a playoff performer...

END OF STORY!

IT's time to hire a experience coach with the credentials to get this team to play well in it's own end.

The offence is fine.
The goaltending is fine
The in zone coverage is NOT fine. THAT's coach the coaches job.

Now... Either hope for a miracle and draft Matthews... Or pick up someone on FA... A centre is needed bad. Turris and Zibanejad are #2 and #3 in a perfect world..

Go for perfection please.

Zibanejad could still become a top line C while Turris slides down into the second line C as more of a two way guy.

Well Julien is apparently taking part in exit interviews with players, so maybe he won't be fired.

It would be interesting if Ottawa were to hire Julien as the Head Coach & Jacques Martin & Luke Richardson as assistants, all are from the area. Those three would certainly turn this team into a defense first team, not sure the players would like it though. I wonder what else Jason Smith will do within the organization? I would guess either scouting or coaching in Bingo.

He was at TD Gardens, but did not take part in any exit interviews.

At least, that's according to Boston media.

A Bruins fan posted on the Bruins board that Ray Ferraro mentioned that his son was currently in the exit interview and Claude was participating.

So who knows.
