That's basically what Murray hoped would work here. He raided a great farm team and made it a non-contender. He made a great NHL team a non-contender!

We've been asking for new blood, we got it. Let's hope Dorion finally picks a real coach and not promote within the ranks like Murray's revolving door of tricks!

The melodrama in this post is staggering.

The farm team that exists only to supply players to the nhl team? The farm team that was barren when Murray took over?

97% of coaches are hired to be fired. Every team tunes out their coach eventually.

If Julien comes here and puts in 5-6 great years, I'll take a year or two rough ones at the end. It's more than most teams get out of their head coaches.

Exactly. WHats the average half life of an NHL coach? 3 years? Maybe 4?

He transformed a terrible St Mike's team into perennial contenders almost immediately after getting there, despite the team either always trading away it's high picks (1st rounders) or having late 1st rounders due to the fact that they were always winning when Cameron was there. Cameron was able to turn teams full of total rando nobodies (plus Cal Clutterbuck, the most Dave Cameron player in history) into a legit team.

He's proven.

He did nothing notable. I'd hardly call the Majors perennial contenders in his tenure. They were an average team for the most part with 2 good seasons with a bunch of older players for the better of the two seasons. The only reason they went to the memorial cup was because of their host status. That's not a perennial contender. A perennial contender is what the Hunters do in London or what Patrick Roy did in Quebec. Cameron us no Hunter or Roy (and those guys are bad NHL coaches to boot).

Just hope we don't cheap out with our next hiring.

I want a veteran coach and those guys cost money.

Not a rookie coach who will sign for what you offer him just so he gets his 1st chance.

This. Luke signed a 1 year extension last summer so he already doesn't have a contract for next season. Can't fire somebody who is a free agent coach

this.

sadly, Luke isn't what we need.
Unless him and Julien used to play golf together in the summer, or some other Dorion-esque connection which would see him becoming assistant, the stars may not align.

I also recall Luke wanting to stay close to upstate New York.... Does Tim snatch him away to Buffalo?! Methinks yes.

The extra weird thing about that is that our Power Play looked really good for like the first 15 games or so this season.

Then it looked sort of ok...

... then the wheels came off after ~game 25 or so, and was a 5-alarm tire fire for the rest of the season.

Like, what happened?

Well, one big thing that happened around the 25 game mark is this:

I don't think losing Turris' effectiveness is a small thing at all, as he's easily our best center in terms of zone entries. That said, the PP should have still been better than it was.

We had some set plays that worked well early on, and I think that instead of expanding on them, and making variations that exploited how other teams adapted to them, we just stopped doing them at all. For example, we had a Ryan sling shot sort of play that seemed to work well. A couple plays that opened up the cross ice pass, but once the other teams figured them out, instead of making a change to keep them guessing, we just move on to something entirely different.

I think Luke said he wanted to stay close to his Daughter while she completed college. I think this may be her last year.

I wouldn't be he's going to cost a pretty penny.

Would be a nice hire, tho

everything in the nhl is expensive. there is no way they're hiring an inexperienced(/cheap) coach again with the new GM just taking over.
How can you not be surprised if it's not Julien? What other experienced quality coaches will be available?

Besides that, all Ottawa needs to do is make it to the playoffs and lose in 4 to recoup the couple Mil that Julien will cost, let alone actually play well and get more than the 2 default home games.

IF* we do indeed land Julien, would he likely bring some coaches and players over from Boston with him?....perhaps we could make a trade involving a core player like Marchand...and considering Sweeney is running things in bean town......nothing would surprise me.
