It's just weird how he can be so good at times but has never won an Art Ross, Rocket or Lindsay and never even hit 100 points in a season which is pretty nuts. And while he was good, Makar was actually the player that put the team to cup status. But he was under paid for a long time so he deserves a huge raise. If that's the biggest contract so be it. Avs basically need to give him a blank check at this point. lolMacK is a very driven human, and wants to be the best player in the game, and if he does that, he will be and should be the highest paid player… so yes, obviously he wants to be the highest paid player, because that means he was the best player in the league. Duh.
Will it happen? I personally don’t think he becomes the highest paid player either way, but would pay him whatever he wants.
It's Dater, so you know, skepticism may be healthy.
Just an FYI, P.Kane started that 10.5 mil caphit at the age of 26…
That’s a nice dream. Maybe another player but won’t be mackinnon.Wonder if he would come to Montreal? Habs have 17 million in expiring contracts this season. Plus strong chance they trade Dvorak by deadline. Which will make 22 million in caproom. May go to 32 million as Price could be done.
Be big turn around Habs draft Bedard and sign MacKinnon same off sesson
Yep we generally loved our GMs overpaying for old players because of no cap, usually didn't even know or care how much the players made.I still remember when the UFA age was 31, and signing a player at 31 was good because they still had many years ahead of them.
You never know? Chance to play with Badard and for MSL. Not many teams will have Montreal's caproom next summer. That’s a nice dream. Maybe another player but won’t be mackinnon.
Very likely, you should count on it...Wonder if he would come to Montreal? Habs have 17 million in expiring contracts this season. Plus strong chance they trade Dvorak by deadline. Which will make 22 million in caproom. May go to 32 million as Price could be done.

How is playing for MSL in any way a draw for a guy like Mackinnon? Honest question. You never know? Chance to play with Badard and for MSL. Not many teams will have Montreal's caproom next summer.
lmao not every GM is Dubas.... there is no obligation for GMs to vastly overpay all their players like he did.He deserves it after taking a pay cut and winning a cup. Plus any big free agent always gets big contracts anyway so he due anyway. Plus in 3 years he probably won’t even have the biggest contract anyway.
That’s a nice dream. Maybe another player but won’t be mackinnon.
If he wants to be the highest paid player I’m sure he will belmao not every GM is Dubas.... there is no obligation for GMs to vastly overpay all their players like he did.
Yes but you said ANY free agent. I'm calling out this logic, and reminding you that this is the exact reason your team has been and will be in a cap crunch for years. It isn't a good method to build a team.If he wants to be the highest paid player I’m sure he will be
He's players coachVery likely, you should count on it...
How is playing for MSL in any way a draw for a guy like Mackinnon? Honest question.
He's coached 37 games in his entire life at any level.... he isn't anything. He's players coach
Yeah it's not a pretty read over there lol....Don't ever come to our board. There's some people talking about trading him. Talk about what a SC offseason can do![]()
He already did.So Much for him saying a while back that he would take a pay cut to help Colorado stay within cap and build and balanced team![]()
Yep we generally loved our GMs overpaying for old players because of no cap, usually didn't even know or care how much the players made.Compare to now, I probably have more knowledge of players contracts than their previous years point totals

I mean in the last five years he’s finished second in Hart voting twice and third another time and he’s paced for over 100 points each of the last five years except 18/19 when he actually had 99 points. I think there’s a really good argument to be made he should have won the 17-18 Hart and if he had or if he had not just missed a handful of games every year I think the visceral impact of his resume would be of a higher profile even though it would essentially be the same. It's just weird how he can be so good at times but has never won an Art Ross, Rocket or Lindsay and never even hit 100 points in a season which is pretty nuts. He never did. He just wasn't very good when he signed his last contract. He already did.
He already did.
We believe that we write up and draft contracts. The truth is that they draft us; we are their creatures, shaped by their rigid, defining clauses. When hockey players sign a contract they are given a sweater, a jersey stamped with the insignia of the Franchise. Their acceptance of that contract is their acceptance of the special duties and burdens of an NHLer—they are hockey players from that moment, though they may know nothing of what it takes to win. I did not know that then, but it is a profound mistake to believe that we must know of such things to be influenced by them, and in fact to believe so is to believe in the most debased and superstitious kind of analytics. The would-be analyst alone has faith in the efficacy of pure knowledge; rational people know that things act of themselves or not at all.He never did. He just wasn't very good when he signed his last contract.

When MacKinnon accepted that contract he was signing the best contract in the NHL. It is superstition to believe that the knowledge MacKinnon would later become one of the best players in the league somehow improved the value of the contract.
When Mackinnon signed his contract, he was not signing the best contract in the NHL. He never took less. He signed for what he did because he hadn't earned any more.We believe that we write up and draft contracts.
