But he'll be turning 30 at some point so that will automatically make him overpaid

Well according to the Avs board during the playoffs (as long as you exempt
after the cup was won, in which the team was amazing, instead of a bunch of mentally frail losers... well, as long as you started reading after they finally took losses) MacKinnon is garbage, so was presumably already being overpaid in his current contract... So yeah, I imagine we'll have posters extremely upset if he gets paid even 80% of his current contract in an extension, especially if he hits that dreaded senior citizen mark where no one can continue to play well. They will want Sakic fired (again), will want Bednar fired (again), and then if MacKinnon does something good for a game, or for a sustained period, during that time, they will love all 3 (again).
Oh wait, he won a cup a couple days after being shit on mercilessly by a fanbase who already knew the Avs lost the finals and were a bunch of bums, therefore they were never bums to begin with, are a great team, and MacKinnon is underpaid and elite or something, because, you know, a few games in one direction radically changes the make-up of a team and player, and a few more games another way radically change the make-up of a team and player again.
If thats the case, just trade him for a shitload of assets. The team is still a beast without him with Rantanen and Makar leading the force.
For sure, apparently the only thing he does is skate in circles for a while, has no hockey IQ, and turns the puck over and doesn't help the team, including in the playoffs, and is overpaid and garbage at his current contract. For some reason some GMs, which hfboard posters are far far more competent then, would be interested in giving up a lot of assets to acquire him. Hopefully Sakic moves MacKinnon this offseason, unless he is willing to sign a long-term extension for $3.5M or something. The awesome awful GM will surely make a bad great trade, depending on the hour of the day that you ask.
