I mean not much more to say, one of the worst contracts in the league. All the benefits from McDrai being vastly underpaid are kind of washed away by contracts like Nurse and Campbell.
He might be movable in the back half if he has a Karlsson like resurgenceHow many times has this been said only to have said player traded.
In order to have a Karlsson like resurgence wouldn’t he first have to have had a surgence? He might be movable in the back half if he has a Karlsson like resurgence

Brutal contract. I don’t see a way out of it. Oilers will need to see it through and find someone that can cover for him. The issue now is who can pair with Nurse and have a cheap contract?
when people say that, they means it cannot be moved without retention. A large retention is worst than having the team saddled with that albatross contract. Nurse has 6 years remaining, I doubt edm will retain more than 1.25 million of that for that duration. Yet, moving Nurse at 6 x 8 million is still an impossible task. How many times has this been said only to have said player traded.
no team is going to retain 3 million for 6 yearsWith 6 years remaining (7 including this one), it's pretty much an impossible task, unless there's retention
Darnell Nurse at 6,25M could fetch a 1st + from a young team who wants a cost controlled solid dman for long term

Thing is, Nurse at 6.25 would have significant value. Nurse at 9.25 doesn’t, but nobody is getting Nurse at 6.25 for nothing, that’s abysmal asset management. It's a lot of cash, but it frees 6,25 for them to spend on another player if they choose too.
It's not the best option for them, but trading Nurse at full cap, with 6 years remaining (7 including this one), ain't an option at all

I think we will get 5 teams from the pacific this yearWhy would the Oilers miss the playoffs? Division isn't strong and they have been pretty decent this year.
1 superstar and 1 backpackHe’s significantly overpaid. Ideally he’s on the second pairing. His 5 vs 5 offensive numbers are good but that’s a result of playing with two superstars.
That's why the Oilers traded for Ekholm. Make no mistake, Ekholm-Bouchard is Edmonton's top pairing. The coaching staff knows Nurse-Ceci isn't good enough together, which is why they were messing around with Broberg on the 2nd pairing all preseason with Ekholm out.If Nurse wasn't being relied upon like prime Pronger he would look a lot better.
If the Oilers can keep his minutes down a bit and have reliable second pairing to throw out for some defensive minutes we'd be talking about Nurse the same way we do Josi or Fox or Makar.
Nurse has nothing on EK though.
Which guys are the top pairings depend on chemistry play style and lots of other factors. That's why the Oilers traded for Ekholm. Make no mistake, Ekholm-Bouchard is Edmonton's top pairing. Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Ceci
Kulak-Broberg
Desharnais
That's Edmonton's healthy group of defenceman. I think the trade deadline will see the Oilers grabbing the best RD available, likely in a Ceci+1st+Bourgault+ package.
