When does the appeal get heard? I still think it will get reduced from 10 games. Maybe to something like 3. I understand he's in the wrong, I'm not advocated for acquittance, but a lesser penalty for sure.

I really don't see a reduction.

If it were another player, sure, but carcillo with his history? They'll just laugh at his appeal.

I admit the chances are slim to none haha, but it at least gives Carcillo a say in the matter unlike the automatic 10 game suspension.

Well, he doesn't really get a say in the matter. He gets to plead his side of the case, which given his history, and how the NHL operates, will mostly be ignored.

Gary's probably pre-inking his DENIED stamp already

Even though the chance of reduction in his suspension is approaching zero, the fact that it's not preemptively denied should be a victory for Carcillo given the type of player he is, his history and reputation.

Well, they have to hold a hearing to at least have the illusion that he's getting a fair trial.

They can't just say "We're gonna deny you anyway, no point having a hearing"

This is my point that Carcillo's actions and surrounding circumstances validate at least holding a hearing, which is very positive for Carcillo given... What I said above.

The fact there's a review is meaningless.

The CBA says there has to be a review. Carcillo could've pulled a gun out of his jersey, shot the ref in the face, and would still be entitled to a review if he appeals the suspension for that.

An appeal for all off
-
ice discipline may be made directly to the Impartial Arbitra
tor.
The standard of
review in cases of off
-
ice discipline shall be whether the Commissioner’s determination was
supported by substantial evidence and was not unreasonable based on the following considerations:
a)
the facts and circumstances surrounding the
conduct at issue;
b)
whether the penalty imposed was proportionate to the gravity of the offense; and
c)
the legitimate interests of both the Player and the League.
T
he Impartial Arbitrator shall have full remedial authority in respect of the matter under
appeal

The only way Carbomb could have his sentence reduced is if he get's physical with the NHL arbitrators at his hearing. Those pencil-necks will get to see what the NHL is like for once!

He has a slim chance in getting the 10 games reduced to 3. Slim. The mitigating factor could be the linesman's behavior, which was unwarranted/uncalled for.

Just because of labor issues I don't think there's any chance of that happening. Unless they can get the officials union to agree they won't be happy. Would the league go to all that trouble for Dan Carcillo?--when it would be a hell of a lot easier just to do nothing?

Question

Because Carcillo is appealing do the games he is missing count towards the 10 games?

In the end, you may be right. But I do believe that the process is real and needs to play out. Otherwise the whole "appeal process" is nothing more than a sham. If labor issues are indeed an issue, then the appeal process will never be truly real.

Someone tell car bomb to bring a youtube video of Letang cross checking a ref and then demand 3 games max.

Yeah, the league won't do anything just for that reason alone.

Why risk pissing off the refs to cut a guy who has a suspension list a mile long some slack?

The player union isn't going to go to bat for Carcillo. He's on his own for this one.

He will also likely argue that 10 games in the playoffs is a lot different than 10 games during the regular season. This is likely why Prust "only" got 2 games for his suspension.
