That might be the worst bottom six in hockey.

Toffoli will not be back in Manchester, he has nothing to prove there. No way do the Kings keep Clifford, Carcillo, Nolan and Fraser over him. Might as well add Lewis and Stoll also, he is better than them too.

Not even close...there are far worse.

And Carcillos fighting (and he is a 5' 11'') will prevent (even scare :biglaugh:) other teams cheapshoots?
:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

It's not that he adds that component of taking risks to deal damage to the other team. No one on the Kings really has the juevos to take someone out.

There's no such thing as scaring people from giving out cheap shots. It's about having someone who will take a suspension and give them back. We don't have anyone else on the team who would.

What the hell happened to Clifford and Nolan as tougher players this season? Nolan was awful all year and Clifford ceased being a factor for the entire 2nd half and the playoffs.

They were not only terrible as hockey players, they showed zero physical presence at all.

Clifford had 5 fights last year. He went 2-3.
Nolan had 6. He was 4-1-1.
Fraser had 3. 1-2.

The Kings have done a lot less fighting in the past few years and def a lot less winning of those fights.

Fraser and Greene are notorious punching bags. Nolan surprised last year and Clifford regressed.

Kings missed having Mitchell around, though he doesn't fight as much, he is a physical presence. Westgarth barely played under Sutter but he kept guys in check the years before.

And lost Scuderi and added Schultz. *

*Willy will be back so there's one positive this offseason.

Just one? I'd count Frattin as a huge upgrade over Penner. Penner was absolutely useless and Frattin should make for a good 3rd liner.

That might be the worst bottom six in hockey.

San Jose. San Jose is always worse. At everything in life. Period.

I could care less about anyones fight records, this isn't Blades of Steel, nothing happens if you win a fight.

What I believe LITN was trying to say is there was no willingness from anyone (hello Clifford and Nolan) to stop any of the crap that was happening last season in the playoffs.

Perron all over Quick the entire series
Blues fourth line physically dominating the Kings
Torres cheap shots Stoll
Bolland very questionable hit on Richards
Duncan keith butchering Jeff Carterp

Where were Clifford and Nolan (to be fair to Nolan he was scratched a few games), do these guys think they are to good to give it back, maybe take a suspendable hit to show we aren't going to put up with this? Nope, neither one did anything productive int he playoffs, they were both total non-factors. Maybe that is why DL is making these moves, he should be as disgusted by those things and the lack of response as we all were. Clifford in particular seems to have gone "Willie Mays Hayes" on us, maybe he thinks because Sutter stupidly put him on scoring lines he is really a scorer, kind of like Hayes thought he was a power hitter in Major League 2.

I don't get this trade at all, unless they are working on trading someone like Clifford and a d-man or prospect to get a 2nd line winger. Another 825k added to the cap for yet another bottom line player.

King, Clifford, Carcillo, Nolan, how many bottom line, left shot forwards does one team need?

If Clifford is on the move in another deal to upgrade a true area of weakness, I am cool with this, if not it doesn't seem to make any sense.

I agree this move only makes sense if Clifford and one of the surplus defensemen is going in a trade for an upgrade on LW.

I'm sure that has a lot to do with this trade. We often get attached to players like Nolan, but they're expendable as soon as they decide they only want to fight four or five times a year.

Those guys just let our goaltender get screwed with by Perron, which was a joke. I'd rather have a guy who retaliated by running over their goaltender and getting suspended than someone who does nothing.

I know it's not a complete picture yet, but outside of Voynov's new deal, I think our off-season has sucked. Yes, I realize we are against the cap, but I have no idea what we are doing with the likes of Schultz and Carcillo

Exactly. Now, I think it's a bit understandable if you think about it for Nolan. He got in to penalty trouble and it's quite possible he softened up his game so he would stay out of the box, which was a big problem for him this past year. Clifford? I have no clue what he was doing. Maybe he suffered a concussion from punching fists with his face and we don't know about it.

Lotta players moving on so it feels like the Kings are losing everyone.

Clifford suffered a concussion from the Ryan Reaves KO a few seasons back. Then he had losses to Brookbank and Eager that didn't help. He decided to fight not so wide open and admitted to letting Westgarth handle the fighting. Now, Westgarth is gone and a younger Jordan Nolan comes in a shows he is better player in the playoffs. The problem was Nolan's game slipped last year, but his fighting excelled.

So one guy's fighting slipped, Clifford, and one guys play slipped, Nolan.

And now, we have a 27 year old Carcillo who had 1 fight last year and only played in 4 playoff games but does have a relationship with Carter and Richards.

I agree, except for trading 20 spots up to get Zykov. Even though that won't pay off immediately, it was a great off season move. Oh, forgot about Frattin + Scrivens + 2014 #2 for Bernier. I think Frattin will do well here and will top 15 goals this year.

The fact this is conditional on the number of games played suggests he's going to be the 13th forward. Don't know why everyone is penciling him in the line-up.

Btw, Andreoff can play center and wing, can fight and has at least average puck handling skills. Why not give him the chance???
Lombardi just loves his scrubs with 0 hockey sense, Calder, Willsie, Cowen, Thornton, Hunter, Moreau, Richardson were given roster spots most of them didn't deserve...

Carcillo was also on a better team.

Nolan or Clifford would not have played regularly on Chicago either.

Well, if Clifford is damaged goods and is never going to be the type of player we expected when we used a 2nd round pick on him, then it's definitely time to cut our losses and move on, especially if he still has some value.

I just can't get over how ineffective he was in the playoffs, he was the worst player on the ice most nights. I would keep Nolan because his value is much less, and I think, like you said, he is more willing to play mean and gritty than Clifford has been. Kyle Clifford is just not a good enough player either offensively or defensively to be a consistent top nine forward, he had the toughness thing going for him and that made him valuable, but that seems to be gone.

And I do feel bad for Clifford, he had no business in the NHL as a teenager with the role he was expected to play, he should have finished up his junior eligibility and spent a year in Manchester, maybe learning better fighting technique. Oh well another player negatively harmed by staged bare-first fighting.
