Uh oh.

My timing.....

He had better have been smacked down. If they ****ing extend Bylsma then the organization is ****ed, there's just something wrong there. Not, "Oh, we'll give him one more year on a short leash and decide after that," no, a ****ing extension. After that cluster****.

Sounds like Bylsma's getting fired and Malkin agent hasn't talked contract yet.

My reaction if Bylsma gets extended:

And that's a promise. I'll lose all faith in this organization if they do that.

Being wishy-washy and letting him head into the last year of his contract without an extension would be counterproductive. Either fire him or give him the extension now. It's not like they can't fire him anyway if things go south.

Here's Rossi's update in the article.

During the meeting, Shero made a strong push for approval on an extension for Bylsma, who is set to enter the final season of his contract.

Shero wanted the coaching situation settled — at least Bylsma's status — so he could start finalizing a long-term contract with center Evgeni Malkin before turning to potential new contracts for winger Pascal Dupuis and defenseman Kris Letang.

Shero also identified parameters of the commitment necessary to keep Malkin — about $10 million annually, all of which would count completely against the salary cap.

Ownership has authorized Shero to keep Malkin at almost any cost.

Shero had a face-to-face meeting with J.P. Barry, Malkin's agent, Monday. Barry described the meeting as productive.

In annual player-exit meetings Sunday, Bylsma received endorsements from Malkin and captain Sidney Crosby.

Yikes.

Hopefully mario comes in and forces the decision again. But i just had a feeling this was going to happen..I also think he will sign letang to an absurd contract. I mean he was willing to sign staal to that 6 mil per contract. That would have given us 4mil less in cap space than we have now. Wouldnt be surprised to see fleury stay to. This ****ing organization just seems to make love connections with players or staff and never know the right decision from the wrong.

Article said nothing about extension being granted. Still hopeful Dan will not be coach tomorrow. I cannot see Mario approving this garbage.

I simply can not understand the logic behind keeping him... Unless they really don't give a **** about winning in the playoffs.

I think it's some stupid notion that he's still a young coach and that he can mature/change/learn, and probably some attachment to him being a nice guy that they won the cup with. People use that argument for Fleury too. :dunno::banghead:

Honestly? Nothing would surprise me, but hopefully Mario is still sane.

Maybe they do care about winning in the playoffs...maybe they're content with 8 wins in the playoffs instead of 16.

Not surprising and I could see Mario and co. going along with it. Mario of course loves the north-south score on the rush 80s hockey so he probably saw Bylsma and Co. more as victims of clutch and grab rather than just not being good enough.

Regular season success is more important to a franchise than people would like to think and if they can maintain the status quo on that without shaking up the entire team then they'll take that route.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that Shero backs DB 100% and it'll take Mario to force him to fire DB.

Shero and DB are very similar, IMO.

- They both love their vets. We all know that DB's gonna play a washed up vet over a rookie and Shero keeps giving them to him. From Park to Glass to Eaton to Adams the list of vets Shero has signed for DB to lay over rookies goes on and on.

- They love their "type". DB'll play a slow gritty guy over a more skilled guy almost every time (JJ sittin about 50% in the POs?) just like Shero will draft his PMD over a forward every time he can. I don't want to turn this into another DP/FF debate but that pick still pisses me off.

- They're willing to go down with the ship just to support his guy. MAF for DB and DB for Shero.

welp, if any of Full Rossi's scoop is true and Shero signs Letang to $7M+ and Bylsma to an extension of any length, you have to fire Shero.

So if this is true, how long till Adams gets signed to a 3 yr contract? I'm sure that will be one of Byslma's first demands.

I don't know about that. We'll sell out all of our regular season games so long as we have the two best players in the game and continue to win. Rush Limbaugh could coach this team to a playoff berth. It's the playoff revenue that makes the big difference, and that's why we need a playoff coach, from a financial standpoint as well as from a hockey standpoint.
