I can save you a lot of trouble, people will say he’s bad cuz he plays on a bad team so he has no value. Or they’ll say “there’s a reason Devil fans put him in every trade” implying that he’s bad and has no value.
Real world Severson has quite a bit of value but here you’d be lucky to get offered a 5th

I'd rather re-sign him instead of trading for a first and a good prospect. We aren't going to ever win collecting picks and prospects.

I dont want prospects or 1st neither which is why I put the Devils needs as a winger & goalie. I want to trade Severson for players who can jump into the lineup right now. Realistically we're not gonna be able to resign him unless he takes a discount (which he isnt going to do). We already got 9 mill tied up in Hamilton. We also got Graves contract coming up. I would rather give Graves his payday then Severson. Its just not possible to keep everyone which is why we trade Severson while he has top value.

What also makes it tricky to decide what to do with a Severson is that we will be very thin on RHD. We only have Walsh as a prospect and will be losing Subban after this year . That’s two RHD gone . I think it all depends on what Severson is going to ask for $ . Devils are going to have to make a difficult choice . Losing 2/3 of your RHD is not going to be fun . However , I don’t think Subban will be hard to find a replacement for or maybe he signs for cheap.
Id almost prefer to trade Smith first to package him along with maybe Zacha to get a scoring winger .

Agreed completely. Thats the only part that really sucks. We are extremely thin on RD, losing Severson & Subban both at the same time will suck but I have faith in Fitz to fill those spots. He did fantastic with acquiring Graves/Siegenthaler on LD. I also feel the team would be much better off with a defensive dman in Seversons spot (especially for the future). Every offensive dman we have should be paired with an defensive minded partner to create balance. Hamilton is obviously offensive RD #1 so he gets paired with a defensive LD partner. But on the 2nd pairing if we're gonna roll with Luke Hughes/Smith it would probably be best to pair them with a defensive minded dman. Its all about creating balance with our pairings & we must think about the future. We got Shakir & Luke both knocking at the door & both are offense minded LD.

Unless someone wants to pay up seems like would make more sense to keep him. Your team will be better next year with him, you have chance to see if he will extend at decent number, and you can always deal him for pick as rental next year.

Best I can do is offer you Tyson Barrie, some edibles and one gently used your momma joke.
Devils do not have enough RHD depth to let Severson go and he’s pairing well with Sieganthaler, but if they were doing a trade with WPG for Severson this is what I’d like see the trade around Ehlers. Devils obviously add a significant piece and a pick, but this would be the base of the deal that makes sense for the Devils.

I would say a fair deal for him would be a 2nd and a c level prospect. Devils could get slightly more if a team is desperate or Devils eat some of the cap hit
I could see Devils looking at Kings,Leafs,Preds and Blues as teams to trade with.
It depends on if coach/GM care about handiness. Smith and Hughes play/played right side purposely. Siegenthaler has no problem either.
Some clubs want that, if not you have off-sided defenders that can play there

How can that be a fair price for him if UFA RHD are rumoured to be getting at least a 1st? If people are just willing to give that, the Devils keep him until next season TDL

Seigenthaler had struggled on his off side . Luke has been playing the right side in Michigan ( not sure why , maybe to prepare him to play RHD on NJ , but he started playing in the right even before he was drafted ?)

I’d do a trade to get Ehlers, I love him to death, but Severson doesn’t get him on the Devils unless “the significant piece” is a gun pointed at Chevy’s head. He’s arguably their best forward and only costs 6m for 3 more years after this season.

I think Tampa could be interested if they could make the cap work. If Tampa offered Cal Foote, '22 1st, and Mathieu Joseph for Severson at 50%, how far off would they be? Of course Tampa would still have to get a third team to retain another 500k and change or make another trade to become cap compliant, but for the deal with New Jersey, this could be their offer.
