I realize some people are upset we didn’t get a 1st + prospect, but I think we have to make peace with the fact that it just wasn’t there for Zucc.

Gorton got what he could. Right now, we have:

1st(NYR)
1st/2nd (TB)
1st/2nd(Dal)
2nd(NYR)

There are still pieces here which will give Gorton more chips at the table.

Some of y’all need to take a step back from the ledge.

As of right now, looks like we want a TB vs DAL finals with TB winning.

DAL doesn’t need to be in the finals to get the first. If they make the finals and Zucc plays well. Maybe they will feel close enough to winning and sign Zucc.

I would have liked that 2020 pick to be a 2nd, but fine with the return even if the conditionals don't pan out. I think it's highly unlikely that he comes back, he'd be looking for term with an NMC, and the Rangers aren't in a position to offer that.

Sucks to see him go, but it sucked to lose Dubi, Cally, McD and Stepan as well. We'll be fine.

He could yield anything between a 2nd and 3rd and two 1sts too,

Hypothetically,

Dallas does not meet the first condition, Rangers get their 2019 2nd

Dallas wants to extend Zucc but does not to give up 2020 1st

We don't think that Dallas is calling the Rangers to ask how to turn that 2020 1st into something else that is worth more than the 3rd they'd owe by not extending him?

Being in the conversations for Gorton at the 2019 draft is going to be important, having some conditional and already known stuff from Dallas is going to lend to both teams talking more.

Serious question: can GM's make a trade to change a condition on a previously conditional pick?

If Zucc can only return a 2nd, 3rd, conditions, why do we think some team is going to swoop in and try to sign him for some great offer that goes beyond what Dallas, who was apparently the most interested, would offer?

Dallas does not even know if they are making the playoffs this year, they could be at least a little more interested in possibly extending him than just throwing some picks out there for a maybe they make the playoffs.

Whether they are interested enough to let the Rangers have their 2020 1st, I doubt that yet I think something more than their 3rd could eventually come into play.

To me this deal is not screaming the Rangers sold him as just a rental for a 2nd and 3rd, nor does it scream Dallas is going to give up those conditions most likely, somewhere in the middle is my guess even if that is based on what transpires between now and then.

The Stars are hedging their bets against how Zucc fits in. If he clicks with Benn and Hintz, is he worth bumping the 3rd to a 1st because you have a guy who got one of your stars going after he was struggling all year? Absolutely. The Stars used to be a powerhouse team and have one of the highest payrolls in the league. The owner wants playoff revenue or he's going to start clearing house. He doesn't want to hear about how they might get a guy in 2020 who could be a really good player in 2023.

Same deal in Columbus. They're pushing their chips into the middle to win now and most of HF is chastising them because they dealt a bunch of picks and some average prospects.

It would be really funny if Dallas actually caught fire and went to the WCF.

Does everyone remember how weak the east used to be compared to the west? It’s kind of like that minus pittsburgh and Washington. The west is a complete joke.

The market wasn't dry. The market was there, but not for the insane returns fans were expecting.

The underwhelming feeling most fans have today is the result of their own unrealistic expectations.
I can't speak for everyone but feeling the conditions have almost zero chance of happening is what makes it feel underwhelming especially given that Dallas has said they're done beefing the team up.

They made their move and they have improved, but not enough to go the WCF, and as other have pointed out, signing a 32 year old Zucc AND therefore losing a 1st in 2020 doesn't sound at all plausible to me.

It's a 2nd and a 3rd in 2020 which is just okay.

Yes. It's okay. It's fair value.

the only fitting response... Thanks to JoeyBones

doesn't that happen almost every season? Nothing is ever guaranteed. Even Rangers had plenty of bad deadline acquisitions like Clowe who we basically traded for 2nd, 3rd, and 5th which is more than we got for Zucc.

I dunno, it’s about even.

The second and third are the same.

The fifth was essentially traded for the possibility of either the second or third turning into firsts.

I get that. With the rebuild, the Rangers need to get something out of a potential UFA. Losing Zucc for nothing would've been even worse for the organization. Same goes for Hayes, McQuaid and others....

But the fact that he's been a consistent 50 point playmaker for the Rangers and got that kind of return is ridiculous, even if he's a rental. The way he sees the ice and is responsible in all three zones definitely deserves a guaranteed 1st rounder. No question. I'm not even talking about the fan-favorite aspect with the Rangers, but the way he plays (offensively gifted vision, grit with antagonizing traits, PK/PP strengths, consistent 50 point production in 5 seasons, etc.) he's a wizard with the puck. There is literally NO ONE in the organization that has that kind of ability, ATM. Kravtsov could become something like that, but that isn't a sure thing until he starts playing with NYR. To make matters worse, they even retained salary on him (even though that doesn't matter in the slightest long term). It's almost like Gorton did Dallas a favor.

I knew Zucc was getting moved, but this was a massive slap in the fanbases face and the organization should be ashamed with that kind of return.

Why should they be ashamed?

I’m not really sure what the organization was supposed to do.

I'm not an armchair GM, I'm a hockey fan. I value a player based on how they play for the Rangers.

I don't like this trade. I don't think Gorton is interested in re-signing Zucc and I don't see how the draft picks are going to make an impact over the next 3 to 5 years.

I'll always root for the Rangers, but it's getting harder and harder to really care about the individual players on the team.

The alternative is to watch those players continue to slide, do nothing and slide with them.

I get where people’s hearts are, but we’re at a point where the moves have to come from part of the body that’s north of the heart.

Try for the 1st or sign Zucc to an extension. There's no one in this organization that has his skillset and consistency. Seems like the Rangers mishandled what they had in that return.

But who knows. None of us are on the inside....

What is this try for the first idea? Do people think gorts turned one down or something??? It wasnt offered or even rumored to be offered, people need to stop bringing this up

Already got his first point as a Star in what seems like the "Top Hat Medley play of the year". Breakaway pass while some Blackhawk was trying to fix his skate and tumbled around, and a Blackhawk and a Star were fighting in what seemed more like a merry go'round than a fight.
