apparently nobody else in the league thinks so. He is going to be 32 is a UFA and is a small winger. He wasn't going to return a 1st.
I do have trouble gauging worth in the auction place every TDL, and it looks at first glance that I overestimated the bring-back, at least until full terms are disclosed.
Like you say, an asset is worth what someone is willing to pay.

Eric Staal had nearly identical point totals to Zuccarello his last 3 1/2 sesons in Carolina and returned two 2nds and essentially our 3rd best prospect.
Staal's image/pedigree around the league is likely a lot better than Zucc's is.

If the conditions are met we could really have made the best trade ever. If not, its meh. Even if one condition is met and we get 1 1st it's good value.

Just because he was our 3rd best prospect that doesn't mean much. We had a barren prospect pool. He would have been around the 7-10 range for most teams.

thats my problem with rating trades based on which number prospect you got from that team. that means nothing without a comparison league wide. like in mlb you could get a top 5 prospects from the mets and be worse off than getting the 30th ranked guy from boston lol

I do agree. If Zuke was drafted and from Manitoba he probably fetches more even with everything else being equal.
Everyone probably thinks he's a finesse Euro too. They don't realize this guy is tough as nails and will take on the Charas without hesitation

I'd have actually preferred we kept him, said it all along that if it wasnt for a 1st to keep him. Lot of it's in the conditions, the most likely way of us getting a first is if he resigns in Dallas.. I hope he likes playing with Seguin.

Can anyone else believe the conditions? Is there a possibility he signs with Stars and GMJG knows there’s a good chance that happens? Cuz they ain’t making the WCF lol. Hopefully Chicago doesn’t jump them for the last playoff spot. Christ.

I don't think it is so much whether a player worked on a sod farm with their family way up north as the fact Eric Staal used to be a premiere NHLer and many thought at his age there was a chance he could reach a percentage of that level again.

The Rangers traded Zuccarello to a team which would give them the highest 2nd round pick. The expected return was a 2nd round pick & a prospect which wasn't going to be a great prospect. The other teams will have lower 2nd's in the draft. Calgary,Nashville, etc.

If Dallas doesn't make the WCF this season or the playoffs, the Rangers can use that 2nd to move up. They did it last year with the Jersey pick for Miller.

Zuccarello signing in Dallas is up to Zuccarello. The Stars have needed secondary scoring for at least a couple of years. He will play with some really high end players. Produce. Help the Stars make the playoffs and go from there. Texas is a no state income tax state.

There are so many players available this year. Not that many last year.

Yea I doubt either condition is met.

Yeah, it would be better to have him for these ever so important 21 games and then have him walk away in the summer.

They don't.

Might want to take a closer look at their cap sheet after this year. Spezza coming off of the books give them more than enough.
Re-signing Zuccarello isnt their only move. They need to fix that defense too, and they know re-signing Zuccarello also costs them a first.
