Confirmed with Link: Dadonov (50% retained) to Stars in exchange for Gurianov

I love Gurianov so I'm a big fan of this, did not realize he had fallen off so hard this year though.

He did score 20 goals in 64 games as a 22 year old for the Stars, same season he had 9 goals and 8 assists in 27 playoff games.

Wont get qualified, will go back to Russia, we lose cap space power.

Ylonen has almost the same number of points in 18 games.

Gurianov Poolparty Kravstov, all the same combat

A pick wouldve been better.

Well see!

Dallas fans really didn’t like Gurianov.

Meh, don't care what people in Dallas have to say about anything hockey related. Not to say that he won't entirely suck just saying that other than looking at stats fans in non traditional hockey markets in the southern States are largely clueless about alot of things and hockey is certainly one of those things.

His numbers in the 2020 playoffs are really good.

There's potential here, let's see what MSL can do with him.
Since he was good in those playoffs and since any team acquiring him doesn’t have to commit to him beyond this season, how was Dallas not able to extract more than Dadonov type value from a playoff bound team?

Physical player, only 25, has size — that’s usually a profile playoff teams are after.

Gurianov is former 20 goal scorer and 12 the overall pick. The change of scenery may be good for him.

I wouldn't go that far. He scored 20 goals only once in 5 seasons. Aside from that he's been relatively inconsistent.

Now i'm not saying it's a bad trade because it's not. It's a good gamble to take on , especially for the low cost of 33 years old Dadonov and 50% retention. Habs are getting younger , faster and bigger in the process. All i'm saying is that we should temper our expectations because the chances of Gurianov busting are still real. I'm 100% fine with the deal though. Low risks for all parties involved

Anderson is a much better player. I like taking a flyer on Gurianov but there's a lot more chance he's the next Armia than the next Nichushkin. This said i like the fact KH consider not acceptable to lose a player on nothing and flip him for a guy that might return something next deadline. I assume we will try to extend Gurianov 1 year and then if he has a good but not great season flip him for a pick next deadline.
we're building some size on the wing with Slaf and Heineman. Will be interesting if we can add Gurianov to the mix.

Yes, let's wait and see. Keifer Bellows and Eli Tolvanen were both on waivers. But they're not the same combat. Same as waiver pick ups Kovacevic and Kyle Clague.

We await to see on Gurianov...

Not sure what you mean by that. We gain some cap space by swaping Dadonov with Gurianov.

Yeah, a pick would have been cool, but that's the thing. Nobody was likely to give up a pick for him unless we retained 50% (or more with a 3rd team involved thus reducing the return further more) and/or taking on a contract.

The end result, cap space wise, is really basically the same as it would have been otherwise. The only difference is we get a reclamation project with a low chance of turning things around instead of a late-draft pick that has even less chances of becoming something.

Very valid question, I don't understand the trade from Dallas' point of view, it makes no sense right now. Maybe there's some friction between him and the coach, he might not be happy with the way he's being used. Maybe he's not at 100% and his production is suffering. It really is a head scratcher.

I would have been really happy with a 4th or 5th for Dadonov. I would have been happy still with a 6th or 7th.

I thought we'd more realistically get a bad contract back. I didn't think we'd be able to get a so called bad contract like Gurianov back. Hopefully MSL can find something in him. I think the final 20 games of the season is too small of a sample size though as far as production will be concerned. Whether we retain him may have to be based on seeing how he plays more than the points, imo.

I won't take offense. I'll just leave this here. I've been following Gurianov's career since the draft. He has a lot more to give, but it's gonna take the perfect set of circumstances. I'm genuinely rooting for him. Please take care of him.

A nice sleak 0% risk move by Habs on this trade...

For a few years i was posing here how i wish Habs would
grab so called under performing Valeri Nichushkin /his rights from Dallas...Colorado
finally grabbed him ...and since he left Dallas he became
a very very solid player for Avs.

Gurianov ...very well could be another type
of Nichushkin situation...get out of Dallas and evolve .
Let hope so ....like this trade
