Glad I didn't say anything in this thread.
No idea what the Jones trade has to do with drafting a defenseman at 32. You need six he's not a goalie. To be fair it was understandable to not be happy with Bowman/Kelley drafting and expect this to have been another disaster
Also, the whole trading for Jones and contract extension soured situation at time as well for some
He pick was part of the trade. No idea what the Jones trade has to do with drafting a defenseman at 32. You need six he's not a goalie.
Wasn't Allan projected to be drafted in late 30's thru 50 range?
Not that much of a reach taking him at #32
Also, since being drafted he has won a gold as part of Canada's WJC so it's not like his stock as a prospect has declined since draft. If anything, he is looking more and more worthy of being drafted in 1st round
Yes but we traded pick 12 and a future first at the time when this team wasnt close to being a playoff team. Stan felt that the team over performing in 2021 in a division only season meant that they were a jones away from contending which fans knew already there was a lot more work needed to be doneNo idea what the Jones trade has to do with drafting a defenseman at 32. Who would you guys have picked with that 12th pick though? Looking back so far maybe Zac bolduc would be worth it or sillinger if he turns it around. Jones provides more value on the ice as of now the only thing that makes it close is cap hit.Yes but we traded pick 12 and a future first at the time when this team wasnt close to being a playoff team. I'd still rather have Jiricek than Jones.Who would you guys have picked with that 12th pick though? Looking back so far maybe Zac bolduc would be worth it or sillinger if he turns it around. Jones provides more value on the ice as of now the only thing that makes it close is cap hit.

Honestly, if they could have NOT traded their 2022 pick and taken back the #32 pick, I think it would have been a more fair trade.
So it would have been #12, 44 and Boqvist. I think that would have been a fair deal.
Honestly, I would have traded Kurashev because that's someone CBJ was interested in rather than the 2022 1st rounder.
No, but I think Kurashev + #32 might have gotten the job done.Lol, you really think Columbus valued Kurashev (especially at that time) like a first rounder? Just because there were reports they were interested in him, does not mean that they valued him at a first-round pick level from a crap team (hint: they didn't).
I like most other people at the time was mostly irate over a future first in 2022 being sent over when it was a decent chance the hawks would be bad. True but with everything playing out you got Bedard out of the whole ordeal maybe you guys get another mid to late first through Murphy, Jones, hall, Dickinson, Kurashev and reichel or a mix of those guys I could see a hall at 50% for a 1st and a b+ prospect along with an additional 5thI like most other people at the time was mostly irate over a future first in 2022 being sent over when it was a decent chance the hawks would be bad. My biggest question in the '21 draft (in hindsight) is how Knies could hang around until #57. As a rookie, he played like a veteran from the day he joined the NHL - now looks to be the steal of the 2021 draft.Still think the pick was relatively lower ceiling relative to some of the other options available. It was a weird pick not because he was a bad pick, but because we needed some higher end swings with the roster we had. We weren’t supplementing a contender.
At the time, scouts didn't like his skating, IQ, playmaking/vision, and defensive gameMy biggest question in the '21 draft (in hindsight) is how Knies could hang around until #57. As a rookie, he played like a veteran from the day he joined the NHL - now looks to be the steal of the 2021 draft.

Wow. The kid joined the Leafs in the playoffs, no less, and didn't miss a beat. I guess it is a prime illustration about the crap shoot that is the drafting of teenagers. At the time, scouts didn't like his skating, IQ, playmaking/vision, and defensive game
Kind of, yeah.So like everything?
Zellweger is talented, but I'm unsure how well he'll hold up in the playoffs.Zellweger would have been nice. Next defenseman taken. But who knows maybe Allan ends up a reliable 4.
