D Erik Brannstrom (2017, 15th, VGK - Traded to OTT)

I thought Foley likes physical and gritty players, instead he loves smurfs.
This is a 95% bust. The trade with NYI looks terrible now.

If Brannstrom is a sure bust then so are all the rest of VGK's prospects.

I just attended their scrimmage and he was far and away the best player on the ice. He plays a lot like Vatanen with the same kind of tenacity and skating ability. Not to mention he had easily the most shots on goal (and shots attempted) out of anyone on the ice.

Keep crying about our "smurfs" though. You've been making everyone laugh so hard.

Wait, are you a VGK or a Ducks fan? Just curious

Ducks first but Vegas is the hometown team. It's a 1a/1b situation.

Cool, good luck :) That’s fun. Any idea how much Vegas tickets will be compared to others in the area?

Could be a nice setup for you to see both your favorite teams for cheap possibly :)

Given that it's a small market team I'd expect tickets to be reasonably priced. 30-40 dollar nosebleed seats.

That is great to hear. Brannstrom has potential to be a massive gem.

Have you seen him play? If he wasnt small he would have gone much earlier than he did.

I think this guy could really be a dark horse. Until I saw that Liljegren was available to us, I was really hoping the Leafs would get Brannstrom.

More of the same from Brannstrom today. Glass and Suzuki showed good upside at camp but Brannstrom stole the show.

A little more I picked up is that he's really strong on the puck overall. He knows how to protect it, he carries it very well in all three zones, and he knows how to find the net.

I've made the Vatanen comparison but actually I do think Brannstrom needs to add strength to his shot. Where Vatanen can hammer it from the point, Brannstrom relies on aim with wristers and he didn't manage to score in the scrimmages I watched.

But I think that Brannstrom has better defensive tendencies. On one play he dazzled the crowd with a toe drag between two forecheckers and finished off with a high wrister that was stopped. The puck bounced out and he got back to close off a 2 on 0 and used his stick to kill the odd man rush entirely. It was, in my opinion, the best individual sequence of the game.

This really could end up a great value pick for Vegas. For my money he was the best player I saw. Tuch and Kolesar look more NHL ready, but Brannstrom was the star of the show.

Love this guy and wish the Rangers had drafted him. Think he'll be one of the best players from this draft. Vegas got a real good one

Like I posted on the Vegas board, if he was 5 foot 11 and not 9, he would've competed for the3rd / 4th overall pick with Miro and Makar. I thought he was an offensive dynamo, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. He is strong positionally, and really uses every pound of that frame to protect the puck and battle in the corners.

I would not be surprised at all in 5 years he's a two way #1 or #2 defenseman.

Literally the only thing lacking from being a difference maker is an inch or two and that's subjective at best.

Small players are making impacts more frequently than ever before in this league.

Brannstrom is going to be an absolute gem for LV. I believe benning was targetting brannstrom when he was trying to trade up into the 1st round.

Kid looks awesome. He was one of the guys I was hoping would be available at 17. Huge fan of his.

Ever since his first highlight package I've been a fan of his, the kid has the skill and swagger that you'd want from an offensive defensmen. Really really really wished the Oilers would've picked him up. I'm glad my second team picked him up at 15 the kids going to be incredible

Was really hoping for him at 17.

Wonder who will be better down the line, him or liljegren, should be interesting

SHL for sure

I think he needs two more years of the SHL, and then maybe a half a season in the AHL to adjust to NA.

The lighter schedule in the SHL will allow him to pack on some muscle (even though he is wiry strong already) and build up his only weakness.

If he comes to the league at 5'10" and 190 pounds, there are no more size concerns. 1 inch and 18 pounds over two years is not even the slightest bit unreasonable for a 17-19 year old to put on.
