D Erik Brannstrom (2017, 15th, VGK - Traded to OTT)

Really wish the islanders kept their pick in and drafted him :(. One of my favorite players this draft

I agree. Rielly is a good comparable. I think defensively he might project to be better too tbh.

He overskates too much in the defensive zone when he just needs to be lesser and efficient- just exit the zone or making the short pass quicker before the defense resets.

But I don't really use it against him at his age. But his edge work and pivoting are very high-end.

He's very aggressive though. It could come back to haunt him in the NHL, but it suits him very well in this game.

You know he went two spots ahead of Liljegren, right?

Indeed, even if Leafs had wanted to pick him over Liljegren they didn't really have the option to.

On the other hand, several teams will surely be disappointed that they didn't pick Brännström when he was available.

Glad to see more people coming around on Brännström :) Best D-man in this draft imo.

Why? You think that the best FW in the draft was Pettersson, and now you think that Brännström was the best D in this years draft. This has nothing to do with that theyre swedish.......right......? (I think i know the answer, even if you wont say it)

Its a great thing Leafs picked Lilly who is the better player.

I'd take Brannstrom over Liljegren which I said before the draft. Both look good but I think Brannstrom shows more awareness and is the smarter player. Liljegren's biggest asset is his skating. Brannstrom is his IQ.

Brannstrom is going to be a good one, Elite skills, and a high hockey iq. He was also on the PK against Canada! If he was 2 inches taller he may have gone top 7, my opinion.

If Makar went #4 being 5'11 there's no doubt Brännström goes top 5. He's like 2 months from being a whole year younger than Makar.
