For once we dont rush a top prospect

Thank you HuGo
We legit couldn't even if we wanted to. We have 7 guys who are guaranteed to make the roster. On top of that we have Norlinder, Lindstrom and Wideman who will likely see minutes. On top of that we have Barron who will need to come up at some point. On top of that we already have six more guys in Laval. On top of that we have 6 or 7 more guys on AHL/ECHL two way deals. Keeping Reinbacher even for 9 games pushes a guy like Struble, Trudeau or Mailloux into the ECHL when healthy. With Matheson on a short term injury I could see Norlinder filling in as the 6D #1PP guy for a week or so before going down. None of the other guys have held their own in that position.

It sounds like a good thing to have this many dmen not busting (and in Norlinder's case, completely redeeming himself from bustville) but other teams will know we have to drop two or three defenseman over the next few years so we're not going to be able to get fair value like we did with Romanov.

Kid had a really strong camp and put some established and bubble guys on notice. He's got really good puck poise and didn't seem to struggle with the smaller rink size all that much.

Only caught one pre-season game, but I thought he looked pretty good!

He is super poised and works well under pressure. He really isn't far from being ready to play in the NHL. You can also already see the offensive potential in him, if he manages to progress in this aspect he will be an incredible asset. And even if he doesn't he will still be able to eat plenty of minutes and be a wall defensively.

He was the guy I wanted the Habs to pick if they didn't go the Smith/Michkov route and I'm suuuuuper happy they did.

You also rarely find these players in free agency or on the trade market, they need to be drafted and developed internally. Big RHD that doesn't look out of place on a professional rink.

Also thought Kaiden Guhle looked really, really good. Montreal could have a solid blueline in a few years if these guys continue to develop and hit their stride.

Was it a ‘safe’ pick? Probably, but he’ll likely anchor Montreal’s top pairing when he hits his stride and be their top shutdown guy.

There’s no guarantee Michkov would have ever worked out in Montreal (sounds like he wanted to go to Philadelphia, which is a red flag within itself).

After that, you’re looking at role players unless someone explodes in their D+1 season. Big, right shot D who can anchor top pairings may not be the flashiest individuals but they win you games and are absolutely a commodity that are hard to come by.

The risk was there for Montreal to take, it’s too bad Carey Price f***ed up his name when announcing the pick.

Glad Montreal did this.

I think he’ll be ready to play next season in all honesty. Him being a late birthday ‘04 means he is ahead in terms of his development compared to a lot of his ‘23 draft peers that are ‘05’s.

Let him hopefully take a step forward in the National League and possibly give him games at the end of the season if his team doesn’t go far in the playoffs.

Jake Sanderson was a “safe” pick too.

I like Reinbacher more as a prospect.

You doubt he felt the most rapport and appreciation from the Flyers execs? Ok. Lol
I doubt he could build “rapport” and “appreciation” with the flyers so fast. That sounds like the largest amount of fan smoke up the ass I’ve ever heard. Itd be the same if I said to you that Reinbacher didn’t care about mtl fans at the draft. It’s also bold to proclaim that when one of the head scouts of mtl is the son of an equipment manager with ska. While briere and jones are new to the team and likely haven’t interacted with many players before. Michkov had to speak through an interpreter and it’s widely reported after seeing no one all year he went only too Philly for meetings prior to the draft. It’s likely he picked his spot which is great for flyers fans don’t twist it to justify your new management though because you’re in the honeymoon phase.

We heard from Fletcher that the Flyers had Michkov #2 on their list all year, dating to before Briere and Jones were hired.

Think the hope is one year in Europe, one year in Laval, and then with the big club for his age 20 season. We will have a much better idea of who he is by then.
