2D is not second pairing. I think Hughes meant a guy who does everything but not necessarily picks up the big points on the PP. That's the reasonable scouting report on Reinbacher anyways.

I think Habs FO is super bullish on Reinbacher (as most teams would be when drafting a guy that high). They just don't want to talk him up too much and no one really knows if he's going to be a top PP QB.
I think Hughes is just setting expectations appropriately. He’s hoping Reinbacher is a 1D 25+ minute munching terror to play against. Why would you predict that and put that pressure on him, in Montreal of all places. This way fans won’t tear him a new one if he isn’t running PP1. Plus when you have Lane coming up, Reinbacher could very well end up on PP2.

He should be coming into a really good defensive position in a few years with all of habs great D prospects.

Are people really pencilling Lane into the lineup ? Does he not face an uphill battle w size and defending ability ? Like pp sure but guy needs to take a regular shift ..

Slaf made the team to please the fans because it was going to be a long season of losing. might do it with Lane

hopefully that wasn't the case as it would reflect very poorly on management that spoke so much about the importance of development. (I was dead set against Slaf in the NHL at 18, just as I was KK and to a lesser extent Galchenyuk)

To touch on the PP time of Reinbacher, am I the only one who expects very little of him from the PP?

Hutson should QB PP1 and Mailloux should be PP2. Both defencemen are great offensively but play a very different offensive style of game. Let those two play the PP and have Reinbacher play a lot of PK minutes and a ton of even strength minutes.

So much to be worked out yet. Do you.have 8 forwards for the PP or are you going to have 3 or 4 defensemen included in the 2 waves? Only time will tell who slots in where.

It will come down to how the others develop since Hutson and Mailloux are the guys you expect to be on the top PP if of course the rest of their games progress enough over time. And of course how much does Reinbacher's game progress offensively as he clearly has the ability to dish the puck and rush it up ice quickly but I don't know enough about the shot yet as in the 10 or so games i've seen now he doesn't use it much but when he does it looks solid. So glad he doesn't do the PK Subban super long wind up

I feel like it's common to see 2 dmen on PP2 cause usually the difference between your 8th best forward and 3rd best dman in terms of offence isn't great enough to justify the possibility of having a forward defend a potential breakaway.

A lot of this worrying over nothing. Let’s say Guhle is on one pairing and Lane is on the other. Does it matter which guy Reinbacher plays with?
Probably not, at the end Reinbacher will likely play the highest minutes most nights. Its too soon to guess who will play with Reinbacher, it could be any of Hutson, Guhle or Engstrom.

I think Reinbacher is an excellent pick for Montréal. Badly needed a bigger punishing RHD with top pair potential. Him playing next season in the Swiss league will be great for his development and could be setting the Habs up to have him break in 2024-25 full time.
Our left side will be the punisher with Ghule , Wifi and Engstrom

I'm noticing how tough this league is. Battles in front of the net, board battles, hard hits, can't skate two feet without someone taking away time and space. This is where you go to learn the NHL game.

I also heard that this is a seriously tough league were many players lose their careers through horrible toe stubs and ingrown toe nails. In fact, three players were hospitalized after vigorous congratulatory butt slaps. One is in a coma attempting a Triple Axle and accidentally hitting the ref.

To prove how tough and relatable to NHL standards, two players from the entire team of 2022 were good enough to be drafted. TWO. Sorry, now three.

I know beer league teams that had more former draft picks.

Sorry, I'm not buying Hughes bullpucks....kid needs to develop in the AHL.

And yet Josi developed there and Matthew’s was there in his draft year

Yup. Better for the player for sure but maybe he makes more money there?

.... In a weaker league. While being older than Tolvanen's reference season.
Are we really trying to compare Tolvanen (who I had #12 in that draft) to Michkov? Are we suggesting they're close to the same level? Is that what we're doing?

You must really feel you're making a great point here. As opposed to knowing very well that KHL production isn't all that cut and dry in terms of projecting prospects.

Those who actually remember Tolvanen's 17-18 season will know that he had roughly two great months, maybe even slightly less, and then the roof collapsed. He came back to the KHL 3 years later (was it weaker then, maybe you can tell me?) and scored 5 goals in 25 games.
