Finally had the chance to catch a game of Reinbacher in the NL. I was pretty impressed but I have a question for anyone who may watch him regularly: does he take just ridiculously short shifts, or am I imagining it? It feels like he gets on the ice, takes care of his own zone, and then gets off the ice while his team enters the offensive zone.

Anyway, he’s extremely good in his own zone, could definitely see him as a shutdown defender in the NHL in a few years. Excellent play off the puck, low panic, great positioning, and very competitive in front of the net. Forwards do not get the inside position on Reinbacher in front of his net and he’s great at using his stick to tie up his man and take them out of the play. His reach is ridiculous too, if the puck is within six feet of him he’s able to sweep it out of harm’s way easily. His size and skating allow him to keep attackers to the outside and his spacing is so good. And his head is always on a swivel so he never loses his man. Really impressive defender for an 18 year old in a men’s league, to the point where I’m a little shocked he isn’t used on the PK.

However, he looked a little uncomfortable with the puck on his stick; maybe I just caught a bad game or something, but I don’t think he carried the puck for more than two seconds all game.

If this guy can develop a dangerous shot, a faster first step and better lateral mobility, and improve his puck skills, I think he’s a legit two-way #1D. Even if he doesn’t, I think he’s still a good middle pairing shutdown D with the right partner. I could see him being taken as high as 6th overall.

He averages 00:39 per shift this season. All regular Kloten defenders are between 00:36 and 00:42 so nothing too crazy. There are a few exceptions leaguewide but I'd say this is also more or less league average. He played just 16mins though. His average TOI is well over 18mins I believe.

Okay, I’ll have to watch more games and see.

Someone is going to bite way early on. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the teams in the top 10 swipes him.
I’d be surprised, just because of how deep of a draft it is. But i don’t think he’ll be available anymore at #20.

To be fair Reinbacher is a late-birthday and Josi is not.

In the same development year Josi had 24 points in 42 games.

Still what Reinbacher has been able to do offensively in the Swiss league is very impressive.
You’re right - this why I emphasized “Draft year” haha.

As you said though, no matter how you slice it - it is extremely impressive from a kid that I had as a defensive stalwart coming into the season - oversight on my part there haha, I have since rectified those opinions.

Smooth O-zone activation from Reinbacher. Punch my ticket on the Reinbacher train, he's a top 10 pick. Would love him on the Blues.
