Pesce has been on pace to hit 30 points multiple times. And Tanev is an anomaly, he is one of the best shutdown defensemen of the last decade. Willander is good defensively but is not even comparable to those. He is not even dominating the J20 league defensively. Simashev I could look at and say he is holding his own in the KHL but we don't have any of those comparison points for Willlander. A lot of his defensive game is predicated on him being faster and bigger than most players in the J20.

Also, I don't want to derail the Reinbacher thread with Willander discussion.

I think he can be a 30 point defenseman. And I don't think people project Reinbacher as a huge point producer either, but he is further ahead at the moment as a two-way D. Anyways agree to disagree, time will tell.

A lot of buzz about Arizona jumping at 6, certainly fills an organizational need, but I don’t know if that situation is what’s best (or even good) for his development. His floor is high, so perhaps the situation won’t effect him as much.

I hope I’m wrong and he ends up being Hedman/Pietrangelo, but if not, there’s a lot left on the table at 6.

People keep saying this but his offensive game and production are not just going to going to come out of nowhere. You can't project someone as 2/3 unless that can produce at least 30 -40 points. One good U-18 tournament where he scored a bunch pp points does not change that. Reinbcaher is easily the safer projection and it's not really close.
Slavin, says hi.

Simashev and Willander are going to be the top 2 of this class.

It’s funny because everything coming from the Coyotes beat reporter Craig Morgan is saying they like the forwards in this draft, and they don’t want to reach based on positional need. Recent article even had quotes from director of amateur scouting Darryl Plandowski stating this is a forward heavy draft, and they even feel comfortable using both 6 and 12 on forwards. And that next years draft is defense heavy.

I feel like the national writers are just being lazy and looking at last year where they drafted Cooley and Geekie in the first and are connecting dots based on positional need.

Hope so! To be clear, I absolutely think they should take a forward at 6, and at 12.

I think there’s a reasonable chance Reinbacher is gone by 12, so if they do want him, perhaps they jump at 6, I feel it’s a mistake, but it’s something I’m told they are considering very heavily.

I agree. I actually really like Reinbacher. As a coyotes fan, I think we need a defense prospect just like him in the system. He would be a great add.

With that said, I just think the forwards at 6 have too much upside to pass on at this point in the rebuild. Just keep grabbing the guys with the highest upside regardless of position right now. Having Cooley, Guenther, and Geekie in your pipeline doesn’t mean you are loaded at forward. None of them are guarantees. (Especially Geekie, complete wildcard there)

I agree, and I really like Reinbacher too, I just feel his upside is overrated, I see Pesce more than Pietrangelo, both are worth a top 20 pick, even in this very strong draft…but there’s 15-19 forwards in this draft that project to be very valuable, potentially more than Pesce, but I’m open to being wrong…I even hope for it, if he is Pietrangelo, he should go anywhere from 5-9, steal after that.

he was plan B
“Ok Cary Smith is off the table, we’re going with the Austrian kid David Reinbacker”

“Oh ok sounds good”

Honestly how the F does that happen…everyone on this board and thousands of others with no role to play could name him.

It’s not that fierce TBH. Vast majority of media reports say scouts aren’t behind him going higher than the top forwards. I really dont think its clickbait either. The general consensus from eye-testers is that Reinbacher is good but not better than that elite cluster of forwards.

If NHL/CSB scouts and fans were 50/50 it would spark major debate on an international scale. I love democracy and everybody gets a say but Reinbacher for Top 5 is only office cooler talk at this point, mostly because CSB/NHL scouts haven't supported it. FWIW, wouldn’t be shocked if he goes to CBJ or SJ.

RIP Steve
