Not to be overly hyperbolic but I honestly believe we're staring at the best defenceman in the NHL in the next three to four years. Elite speed, elite offensive upside, for a twenty year old kid he has impressive defensive awareness. This guy has a hell of a future infront of him.

I like hearing that but maybe a tad hyperbolic. I hope though.

what a beauty! my gosh, the best thing to happen to the avs in 2017 is actually not winning the lottery. One game is a small sample, but I have no doubt he will be better then Hichier. Dude was awesome, looks skinny, but that's ok. He will add strength. but man, what an awesome dman. exactly as I expected.

Really? Kid’s always been stocky, he has the Crosby build. He can and will add strength, but it’s not an issue. He ragdolled Frolik when the latter had great body position on the puck, and there was obviously the impressive strength on the goal. He’s a beast. Would not be surprised to see his official NHL measurements (don’t know/trust other ones) at 6’0”, 195 at least after a good, decently long summer.

I wouldn't worry about that. I've seen him outmuscle much bigger guys, and blow a few guys up with big checks over the past few years. He's a complete dman in all aspects of the game.

They have a lot of good pieces but they are still missing an entire 2nd line. If they are able to get a high end 2c and maybe another top 6 winger they will be in a pretty solid spot.

But that's why that Ottawa pick is such an amazing steal. They're either getting Byram to add to Makar and Girard (who is as highly touted as Makar and Hughes) or a guy like Turcotte/Cozens (or that guy who's name I can't spell or pronounce). It's a win-win for them.

I think they're going to be getting a lot of UFA attention now, though. Guys are going to want to jump on that gravy train before it leaves the station.

They are definitely a perfect spot for a lot of players, they will be competitive for a long time, will have the proper roles for those players to fill and they have the cap flexibility to keep options available.

With that said, Avs need to be very careful and learn from Tor's mistakes. If it isn't a perfect fit or they aren't willing to take a reasonable deal the Avs should hold steady. They'll have the luxury to pick their fits.

What Charlie McAvoy did for Boston as a rookie out of college coming into a playoff series maybe influenced trying the same with Makar.

Hmm..I still think it would be a toss up between Dahlin and Heiskanen but I'm by no mean disappointed (I'm actually thrilled) that the Avs have Makar

I don't really consider them prospects anymore. FWIW, I didn't word that the greatest. I was talking about NHL Drafted prospects. I do think Makar is in that Miro/Dahlin tier though, huge fan of the kid.

Dahlin is a generational defensemen. Heiskanen probably is a tier above Makar. Heiskanen is a normal level 1D prospect that we might see every few years. Makar is the average level of #1D prospect coming into the league. Makar is a little unlucky that he's coming into the NHL at a time where the top-end defensive prospects are of an incredibly high caliber.

Honestly I've been more impressed with Miro this Season than Dahlin in the games I've seen of both. Dahlin still needs a lot of work defensively, he is a year younger than Miro so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for Miro looking more polished.

I don't view Dahlin or Miro as generational talents. That term is thrown around far, far too often these days. incredible young talents, but both are a tier below generational for me, maybe even a tier and a half. Makar has incredible upside, I feel similar (but to a lesser extent) about Quinn Hughes.

Dahlin's the only player outside of McDavid that I'd consider moving MacKinnon for.
