Love Dahlin but no. I'd rather gamble on Cale being an adequate top pairing guy than give up MacK and be without a #1C, a top 5 one at that.

Not saying it's something I want to do or would actually do...just that he's the one guy outside of McDavid that, if offered, I would have to entertain moving MacK for.

Honestly I've been more impressed with Miro this Season than Dahlin in the games I've seen of both. Dahlin still needs a lot of work defensively, he is a year younger than Miro so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for Miro looking more polished.

I don't view Dahlin or Miro as generational talents. That term is thrown around far, far too often these days. incredible young talents, but both are a tier below generational for me, maybe even a tier and a half. Makar has incredible upside, I feel similar (but to a lesser extent) about Quinn Hughes.

Dahlin had the second most points ever for a U19 defenseman. He's a generational defenseman. Whose been better in the last generation on defense?

He had a great Season on a poor Team, but as I alluded to in my previous posts he's still got plenty of things to work on. Aaron Ekblad had quite the rookie campaign not so long ago, are we just going to throw that in a gutter? We can't ignore the fact that scoring this up this Season quite significantly from even just several Seasons ago.

We also can't ignore the fact that Dahlin was certainly more sheltered this Season than Miro as well, particularly when it comes to Zone starts.

I think Dahlin is a fantastic Defenseman, and he does have the upside to be a legitimate superstar, but I'm not willing to label him a generational talent after a Season where half of his point totals came on the PP.

If he becomes the "McDavid of Defenseman" down the line, I'll have zero issues admitting I was wrong. I'm not banking on that coming to fruition though.

Anyways, this thread is about Makar, not Dahlin and I'm really not trying to become one of those annoying posters who hijack a thread. If you'd like to continue this conversation I'd prefer you respond with a DM.

The thing that impressed me most in his debut (aside from his goal) was the way he was whiping great passes around on the PP with such confidence. I don't think tape-to-tape passes are going to be an issue for this kid.

Between Barrie, Girard, and Makar the Avs have a guy on the backend who can BB an outlet pass at any given time as they'll all most likely be on seperate pairings. Fun time to be an Avs fan.

Is no one going to talk about how disgustingly amazing Makar looks out there?

His vision is Karlsson like and he doesn't skate much worse. He had 2 or 3 incredible stretch passes that led to chances for the AVS. He escaped pressure with his stick handling and skating better than 90% of defenseman in the league and it's only his 2nd game.

I'm dumbfounded at how good this kid looks.

The Karlsson comparisons from draft year is becoming reality. He was a beauty tonight and held his own very well. Not to mention he’s doing this not during regular season but during playoffs.

I am starting to believe he might be better then miro.

I get it's impressive but I don't think anyone who has followed Makar should be surprised. I wasn't worried about how he was going to perform as his IQ, skating and skill are his best attributes. Rookie mistakes will happen (and a couple of bobbles did), but like he did with Canada at the WJC, he just constantly makes smart plays and creates offense with his skill.

His confidence level is also insane. Its the playoffs, his 2nd career game, in overtime, and he did a toedrag around a Flames defender, as well as other amazing plays. Most young players would play a safe game, just trying to prevent mistakes. This guy is special.

50-60+ points next season no doubt in my mind if he gets top PP time. He's an incredibly dynamic offensive player. When he took shifts with MacKinnon it looked like the Avs had 2 MacKinnon's out there. Also his breakout passing is beautiful. There was one moment where I was like who the f*** is that pass to and suddenly it's directed off the boards and perfectly on the stick of a teammate. His passes are super crisp too.
