Wait how is he only 5'11? Just based off of his highlights I thought he was like 6'3 wtf

Also he's expected to be on the NHL roster when his season ends right? Even if it's the during the playoffs?

I think he's about 6 feet. He carries a good posture on the ice. Makes him look taller than he is.

I think Colorado has to put him right into the team. They can't say they are trying to win, and not put him out there immediately. It might not matter for most teams that are out of it, but a team that is in playoff contention shouldn't pass up a playoff run. They have no idea if they'll be back there anytime soon.

The coach has already said that if he is signed and put on the NHL roster he'd play him. I'm paraphrasing but I expect him to be played if he signs in time

The Avs are going to be annual playoff contenders with the addition of Makar and what looks to be the best shot at landing one of Hughes/Kakko. I highly doubt they have a hard time making the playoffs after next season. Lots of cap room too.

This is often said about many teams. Outside of 5-10 teams in the league at any given time, the rest usually rotate playoff spots with each other. I don't think Colorado is yet good enough to be assured every year of a playoff spot.

Sure it is, but how often do those bubble teams add 2 of the top 3 prospects in the world in one offseason?

The Avs are poised to improve more in the span of the next year than any other team in the league. The 8-12 type seeds, which is the group I'd count them in, don't generally land Makar/Hughes/Kakko-level prospects. Two in one offseason is unprecedented.

I agree that they will improve a lot, but its all projection that these players have immediate success, and usually teams do not go from middle of the pack to top 1/4 of the league because they added two prospects to their NHL team. Some teams don't even improve by adding generational talents. Buffalo is nearly as bad as last season, and they added a record setting defenseman.

Only time will tell, I don't think there's much I can say that will convince you otherwise, and I can assure you that even the most eloquently worded response will not change my opinion. Which is that the Avs will be in the playoffs for the foreseeable future, starting next year. I have seen way bigger longshot predictions on here and am happy to throw that one out there. However:

This thread is about Makar, and I would like to keep the discussion there, and less so on my half-baked predictions for next year. I am not sure if there is a better skating prospect in the world than him at the moment.

UMass was the worst team in college hockey the year before Makar got there. Now they're in the frozen four, with no other big recruits since that point.

The game is not all about points, and context is important.
And Michigan played in the second toughest conference in college hockey so the game is not all about points, context is also important.

We're not just adding prospects. We have alot of younger players maturing aswell. And a ton of room to sign a legit top six guy in FA.
So potentially we could add Hughes/Kaako/Dach/Turcotte/Byram/Cousins, Makar, and Kevin Hayes, Ferland, Panarin ect. We are well set up. Obviously some things need to go our way but we're very fortunate right now.

damn avs fans have become obnoxious lol
Don't think so. Many Avs fans downplay the teams future and are somewhat pessimistic how things will work out.

Now imagine if certain big market teams had Makar and the best odds to draft Hughes/Kakko alongside their already promising core. The hype train would be totally out of control.

I’m an Avs fan who continuously gets mad at my fan base peers for overrating players and prospects. In Makar’s case however, I’m not convinced Avs fans even understand what a special, special prospect they have on their hands.

He hasn’t played a single NHL game yet so he certainly has a way to go, but Cale Makar could very well become the best player on a team that has Nathan Mackinnon on its roster.

Cale Makar isn’t just good. He’s a prospect who’s elite at a lot of things while also not really having a weakness. It’s hard not be excited about a defense prospect like that.

Ya people tend to forget how far he has come already. Remember the questions in his draft year...

Can he adjust to higher competition?
Can he learn the defensive side of the game and play without the puck on his stick?
Can he fill out and handle the physical side of the game

Check. Check. Check. As far as I'm concerned he was supposed to have a longer development path and is now excelling in areas that used to be weaknesses

Great prospect, no doubt, the odds that his game will not translate well to the NHL seem to dwindle with each additional game he plays. Man amongst boys against Notre Dame. UMASS now considered favorite to win the tournament after steamrolling their region, hard not to REALLY like what you see, the kid oozes confidence and with that hockey IQ, its not hard to understand why.

Funny that you go for the one-up, but not particularly surprising. I'll lay it out for you because you clearly need the help:

- Makar is a great prospect

- Hughes is a great prospect

- Comparing the two purely on the basis of points is nonsensical

Curious that you cite strength of conference given how much talent was in Hockey East this year. And you would know that conference strength fluctuates year to year. Take a look at the teams that made up the year-end poll if you need any help understanding that point.

Anyway, you should be happy about your team's prospect, not sure why you choose to be difficult, but that's really your issue.

Pretty sure S E P H is an Avs fan. I think they're just trying to be a devil's advocate (and likely generally think highly of Hughes, too) since you're going overboard yourself
