Girard - Makar combo was surprisingly good.

I thought their size might be a detriment and some cases were a problem in the defensive zone, but in the open ice, transition and offensive zone they're nearly impossible to catch.

Thats the problem... After watching last nights game it became apparent that the lack of size on your blueline held back the Avs from advancing to teh WCF.. In the playoffs when everyhting gets tighter, big skilled guys will always trump smaller skilled guy.. I could see the Avs adding Kirby Dach and Moritz Seider to the talent.... dear god that would suck ass as a Kings fan but you guys woud be terrifying..

Size was an issue across the lineup and lack of secondary offence.

AVs adding another 1 or 2 Forwards would have made a huge difference.

And size to the blueline, Johnson was ok and Zadorov lack mobility.. but what does that say about your team that it's only 2-4 players away from acheiving greatness and of course with all that cap space + the 4OA + 16OA .. it will do wonders for your team..

AVs have little Net presence and uses Kerfoot which was manhandled. Wilson was an option, but he has terrible hands and should be used on the 4th Line. Jost showed massive improvement, but very inconsistent. Rants is a sniper and not normally in front the net.

This is the reason the PP was terrible, they were pushed around the offensive zone.

Absolutely not true at all. Yikes if that's the conclusion you gathered from watching that series with San Jose...

We had plenty of size on the back end. If anything it was those big Dmen(Particularly EJ) that cost us the series because of dumb penalties and poor puck moving ability.

Re-read the conversation, you need big, physical, mobile defenders ala Jake Muzzin who can clear the crease... The Avs didnt lose the series because of an Erik Johnson penalty, they lost because they were predictable, lacked secondary scoring and their lack of physical size led to them being bullied when it mattered most .. You guys are still 1-2 years away from SCF appearance which will be helped with the 4th & 16th picks

Nothing surprising about it. Add a little experience to clean up the sloppiness that caused their issues and that pairing should be beautiful.

Zadorov lacks mobility? Compared to whom, Makar? Zads is huge, so he doesn't look fast but watch how quickly he erases space and how easily he catches up to forwards and try to tell me with a straight face that Zads isn't one of the most mobile giants in the game right now.

Add the secondary scoring and nothing else matters :dunno:

Zadorov is not good nor will he ever be to team up with Makar. If the Avs want to help Makar realize his potential he needs a Pesce type Dman..
1) To help mentor and cover rookie/development mistakes
2) helps him build further confidence
3) allows him the ability to play his game and not try to cover the deficiencies of his partner
4) He will be able to play with anyone and make them better

Just look at what Willie Mitchell did for Drew Doughty

Good thing Zads is Barrie's partner & Girard is Makar's then.

Zadorov is a great skater.

Zadorov is a great skater.

Good for his size doesnt make him a great skater, can you even fathom the damage Makar would do on the Hurricanes Slavin/Pesce, Bruins Chara/Carlo, Lightning Hedman/McD, Blue Jackets Jones ...
I bolded Chara because he's old as shit but is effective defensively and all you really need to do is watch the playoffs to see his impact

I'm not sure you know anything about Zadorov.

Right? Zads has been inconsistent af during the regular season thus far, but buddy's describing exactly what Peacock did for us both this & last postseason...and what he does when he's playing well in the regular season...seemingly without realizing it.

Nevermind that Samwise & Cale ran into trouble when they missed their passes / stick-handles -- which will be resolved by experience -- not because they weren't big enough...

If he were picking him apart for misreads that'd be one thing. But the first thing you should notice about him is about how well he can skate. He's a giant yes but he has above average skating. He moves around so well that it allows for him to cover for his mistakes if he playing sharp.

Landeskog - Mackinnon - Rantanen

Byram - Makar

This would be ridiculously disgustingly unfair to opposing teams.

They lost to a cup contender in game 7 by one goal, which they had if not for a very lame offside call. They easily could be in the conference finals right now.

Went further than that... I was rooting for you guys to crush the shorks!!!

Then I have no idea how you could be so off base on Zadorov's mobility :dunno:

There are legitimate gripes to be made about Peacock's brainfarts and intermittent lackadaisicalness with the puck, but he doesn't just move well for a giant, he moves around the ice well period. His mobility, reach & strength are what let him get away with those brainfarts & sloppiness and what make him such a good fit next to Barrie. Assuming he never learns to turn his cannon into a trustworthy weapon, Muzzin would be exactly the archetype that big Nik fits.
