Makar reminds me of Dahlin's current transition. Against inferior competition, they're confident and know what they can get away with. When they go to a new league, they know it's a different beast so they focus on the defensive end and learning the ropes. Makar is starting to look more confident, but it's clear he's focusing on being an all-around defenseman. IMO both Dahlin and Makar could score more points at the moment, but their overall games would suffer.

And before anyone get's their panties in a knot, no i'm not saying Makar is equal to Dahlin or anything of the sorts at the moment.

Arguing about the skating of Makar vs Hughes is like arguing about pie vs cake. Both are good.

Makar is the player I really wanted the Sabres to get in the 2017 draft. Obviously they never had a shot at him in the end. But the hockey gods rewarded me the next draft. Makar is going to be a stud.

Makar has the talent to be a pure stud in the NHL, so does Hughes. Makar has the edge in breakaway speed and is blessed with a better shot. Hughes is a better skater, more slippery and his offensive playmaking ability is a tad higher IMO. But, it's like splitting hairs, both could be elite offensive D-Men at the next level.

Based on their skills, I see Makar possibly being a 18/47/65 point player and Hughes being a 10/56/66 point player. Both breaking 60 but Makar putting up great goals and Hughes being a PPQB and assist machine.

you deny hockey fans their one true passion? your cruelty knows no bounds.

Can't wait to see a future Avs v Sabres tilt featuring the dueling D men.

great post spot on

He just toys competition in most of those recent clips, Makar got drafted where he should but people should stop underrating a prospect because they play Jr. A.
