Is it too early to say I told you so lol? Or should I wait after we lose to Swiss?
And what would change if someone else came there? After all, absolutely everyone plays disastrously.
I've said it all along, the most important thing is for the coaching staff to do a good job.

Porbably nothing much. Still 4-5 players who are not in the team and should be could make a difference, maybe not maybe yes, we will never know. Its more just that I said before the tournament, that I dont have a good feeling about this team, and dont believe in the coaches and staff that they know what they are doing. So far looks I was right. But of course still there is almost whole tourney ahead of us, and miracle can happen, but I dont believe it very much.

I actually felt before this tournament that Slovakia had a deeper roster, especially amongst forwards. But then again no Kulich nor Sapovaliv.
Slovakia have the possibility of having three good lines with great forwards from NA and- or Sweden.

Psychological breakdowns like this happen in junior hockey, but they are same time often at the coach's responsiblity. When the last year's team was psychologically down a bit, Rulík was actively coaching the players, talking to them all the time. Those young guys need it. Augusta was just standing behind the bench and looking sad. You cannot expect junior players to come back from the pit on their own. Augusta may be a good hockey expert but his coaching skills during the game seem to be close to zero. He shouldn't be coaching a junior team.

Of course it was just the first game, but the entire team was looking very much heads down, with no mental strength. A few bad shifts and everything started to collapse. And I am not sure at all if Augusta is the man who can help the team in such situation. Hopefully they will beat Norway to avoid relagation issues, but don't expect much more this year. The players are mostly good as individual but the chemistry seems to be lacking.

Disapointing start. Disapointing game. Disapointing everything.

2nd line looked okay. D was bad. Top line was not dominant enough. Hrabal with a few mistakes for sure.

Basically, everything went wrong.

AND we probably lost Jiricek.

My Schnattinger starts the quarters is looking accurate so there is that.lol

Oof that was a tough one!
This is why I set low expectations. But that 1st period brought them up a bit lol.

Hrabal with a couple weak ones and too many penalties taken was the main difference today.
Not taking anything away from Slovaks. I like how they played.

1st line was fine in the first but they have to set up around Kulich and get him shooting.

I liked Becher overall and Bareš was very visible in beginning too.
The personnel isn’t bad. They can play better than this. Wondering how much coaching plays into it.
They obviously have the potential after watching that 1st period.

The game was still completely open after 2 periods. I don't want to imagine what was happening doing the 2nd intermission but the way the team started the 3rd period was disastrous. I know they started the period shorthanded but the penalty kill was absolutely terrible (which resulted into a goal for Slovakia), then they allowed another goal during their own PP (Hrabal? Really? That was a shot any average goalie from the Czech U20 league has to stop), and that was basically it, the rest of the game was about waiting for the final buzzer. While it the 2nd period the team was suffering from penalties but still was "in the game", in the 3rd period we saw frustrated, broken players with no confidence about their own skills, no system, even the basics of own zone coverage were lacking. I know junior teams are often fragile but the hell, that's what the coaching staff should be there for - to help the players in such situations. Augusta was standing there, dully gazing on the rink and saying nothing.

His post game interviews didn't inspire much confidence.lol

'I didn't talk to Jiricek in the 2nd intermission'
'You tell me why we stopped playing after the first'
'I let them know what was on my mind after the game'

I'll chalk it up as an awful game and hope it improves as we really aren't that bad.

So we are down Dvorak, Port and Jiricek.lol I know they are all different circumstances but it's not going well.lol
It is what it is. Next man up. Galvas should play hopefully.
Hoping the boys wake up after this. Poor poor showing. They will want to redeem themselves.

Not only was playing Jiricek stupid.. it also turns out we don't have any right handed D on the team now.lol
Seems like the Jiricek brothers are unlucky with injuries at WJCs....

Its scary how much its starting to resemble last year senior WCH lol, even with the stupid answers from the coach at the interviews :D

And have also Badinka playing in SHL right now instead of being here.

I don't understand how was it possible that he didn't even talk to an injured player during the intermission. Seriously, Mr. Augusta?

In fairness... Canada lost on day one last year too. Did wonders for them in the end!
I was thinking the same thing!! lol! Czechs stunned Canada to start.

I still hope we can accomplish something this year or play some good hockey.
We have the players to do it. Need to make some serious adjustments and play like a team.
I’m going to be positive and say we easily take down Norway.

Bring on USA on the 29th. They will underestimate us.

I like the players and team. The coach is worrying me a bit though...

I think he coached Liberec with Dvorak and Perez.. one declined and one got cut. Seems strange to me.

Now we have game 1 which saw us underperform badly.

Then I read that we only have 1 right handed D?lol

The goalie selections I've questioned the whole time and now Hrabal has been lit up like a Slovak Xmas tree. I know I keep repeating it but watch us play Schnattinger in the QF.

It's all confusing to me.lol

Having said that.. I don't know him and could be very wrong. I did like our starting lineups and how he set it up. We score a second goal in first period and it's a different game maybe. I do feel like the Slovak coach readjusted after a bad period and we didn't at all. Never felt like we were coming back in third.

But, worth repeating, Slovaks looked great in 2nd and 3rd.
