WC: Czech Team 2022

Ok, this was much, much better. Pasta obviously influenced the whole team with his presence, so on. The chemistry with Krejčí worked great. Although the performance went down a lot from the second period, we comfortably controlled the match.

After easy win against Latvia players get comfortable, so I am expecting heartbreaking match against Norway which will be decided by goal in overtime. Let's hope i am wrong :D

I don't think Norway will win. Czech players are very practical and I don't think they'll get cocky towards Norway.

I was really impressed with the first period against Latvia - this was precisely what we've been waiting for: Czechs finally showing up and playing according to their potential. Imagine what's possible for this team if it could deliver such an effort consistently over 60min. I'm really intrigued to see, whether they manage to continue on the same level against Norway.

The nice thing about dropping out of 'big 5' is that every game is an adventure!lol

There cannot be a single person that would've predicted these 3 as the top 3 scorers in the tourney after 4 games!

Blumel is slowly becoming my fav non NHL Czech ahead of Klok, Spacek, D Kase and Musil! (not including Hertl or Jiricek for the opposite reasons).

Only 4 guys on team without at least 1 point.. NO way would I have said Hronek and Vrana.lol Stransky doesn't suprise me and Kempny is in preseason and has been fine on D.

I can completely understand why the Czech fans are excited, this is the best team you've had for a long time. But I also agree your weakness is the defense and somewhat the goalie. You're kind of like Russia usually are or more like were; impressive offense, questionable defense and not top goaltending.

After I wrote this, things have happened for the Swedish team as well with some last additions. Ullmark(G) from the Bruins, Gustafsson(D) from Pittsburgh (not a super addition but he's still a depth player for a NHL playoff team) and Nylander (PPG player, not as good as Pastrnak at scoring goals but he's a better puck distributor and puck handler). So I feel a bit calmer facing the Czechs now, even though I really respect your offense. Those top players are excellent and can win a game alone within the right opportunities.

After these additions, you still obviously have better offense than Sweden, but Sweden's defence is now packed with NHL D-men and is easily the best in the tournament. And now we have a real NHL goalie.

If we face eachother again, it's the Czech offense vs the Swedish defense and goalie.

I went to the gold medal pool and said Sweden after hearing about Nylander.. he has something insane here like a 2 .ppg average. He is a phenom!

I'm big on Ullmark as well.

That D is beautiful.

Heavy favorites against us if we meet again.

I do like this team on paper but I"ve liked the last 5 or so teams to be honest.

As far as goalie.. Vejmelka is a legit NHL starter and I feel playing for Arizona makes him uniquely qualified to start for us.lol Assuming NHL goalies are better than Euro ones.. he has to be a top 5 goalie here.. Swayman, Ullmark, Thompson and Elvis. I may have missed someone but he definitely belongs in that grouping as Swayman is still young (like Dostal) and Ullmark is probably the best keeper now.

When/if we lose in the important games.. it'll be the D that killed us.

Ullmark is a great addition, he had a fantastic season for the Bruins. When can the Czechs and the Swedes play each other again, though? In the semis, right? I don't quite see the Czechs getting there, to be honest...

By the way, back on topic: I love Pasta as much as the next guy, but he can really be a turnover machine. Plus he knows he has a superlong leash in the Czech team: if he kept losing pucks like this in Boston, Cassidy would make him sit out a shift. This will never happen on the Czech team, though. That scares me a bit.

It was good to get the win. Pasta was great. Impressed with Cervenka so far. I like Blumels speed.

I think Kempny needs to sit for a game though. He didn't play well today (2 stupid penalties) and has been underwhelming overall imo.

Yeah, we should be careful about him switching too often with Hronek on the PP and being on the blueline. Against a better team he'll lose the puck there and we may get scored on. He almost gave it away today.

I thought Kämpf were brought into the team to play box play minutes. Isnt that what he usually does best? I could not spot him during the penalty kill…

Pastrnak's weakness is that he is always trying to be creative and do special things, even in situations when he's under pressure and would be much better to just make a simple pass. It is the result of him really enjoying the game plus being confident about his skill, but it can also turn into a choach's nightmare. He needs to avoid this against stronger opponents, just as he reduced it (at least a bit) in the NHL.

Czechia's offence looks to be the best on paper right now with Krejci, Pasta, Vrana and Hertl among others playing in major roles in Europe. Luckily for Finland Czechs play USA a night before and Finland on the other hand have two days off. Early to say at this point but I'd say Czechia is a slight favorite against Finland.

Finland only has Granlund and couple of KHL-stars. Armia and Filppula are decent aswell.

If the Czechs lose tomorrow they'll have an excuse right away. Namely, the Finns have had three days of rest when as the Czechs had a tough game a day earlier.

Actually, that isn't really an excuse. The criticism towards the schedule isn't completely unfounded.
