You should stop reading that stuff, I can't stand the mentality of "whatever we do we suck" and "whatever they do they are awesome". I mean, on sports.ru they even had an article "why CSKA sucks as a champion" even before the Gagarin cup finals started...

Well, it's what we see on the rink. Our team looked like crap, where is the sniping, where is the combination playing that Russian/Soviet hockey was famous for? I mean, of course I want the boys to perform well, but it seems Znarok has lost his hold as a coach. He just can't produce good, disciplined and organized teams. What we see is chaotic, unorganized playing that can't lead to victory.

There was no pattern or discernible plan. That must be down to the coach and his staff. Players were playing alone a few struck up some chemistry like Panarin and his former SKA team mates but other than that they might as well be a bunch of strangers.

Poor discipline as well. Soft penalties to give away and completely unnecessary. Maybe the coaching staff will have a word with them about it.

Yep, I agree with you. It was an abysmal sight for anyone familiar with how Russian hockey should look like. It was a shame to the Russian nation.

It is. Some will say it's only a group game. The team will still make the quarter finals and the tournament when some of the NHL back up arrive (might by Kuzy and co) starts then. It's not good enough.

This team should be aiming to win every game wherever it is, whatever competition it is. Second best is meaningless. They should be really hurting after losing yesterday. This sort of pathetic effort would not be tolerated in years gone by. Losing to France and recovering a couple of years ago is glossed over.

Waking up for a period and going to sleep in two others is glossed over. It really should not be accepted or tolerated. There still needs to be a lot done to reinstate a national style and team play which is what delighted millions around the world.

True. Back in the days of Soviet hockey, the USSR could defeat any opponent by a big margin. But training is just different these days. The KHL just doesn't seem to develop Russian players that well. They don't train the same way. The USSR hockey team trained each hockey player to be made of iron, literally, they practised pretty much all day long in special camps. The results was the greatest hockey team in the world. These days players earn millions of dollars and aren't as motivated to represent the honour of their country. That's one of the problems.

The current players of Russia lacks, practice drills, skating drills, stamina drills and hockey creativity, shooting accuracy and power and speed of resolving gameplay situation mostly.

Means that they are severely if not heavily underdeveloped.
Russia`s NT staff should go look visit finland hockey player development which is probably best in Europe so far.

There is too much pressure on coaches, many of them are just resorting in playing stupid bang-bang (bei-begi) hockey trying not to get fired.
Znarok, Billy, and Kvartalnov are the exact image of this among the big teams (even if I don't get how in the world they'd get fired, frankly).
And unfortunately we're getting them ruling the national team... and I'm afraid the next on the line will be Kvartalnov...

2010 Olympics we lost 7-3 to Canada but was much better than losing yesterday's game...

i bet after making big money in russia he'll retire in germany. our german beaver.
it's not a coach's problem, there're just not enough good players. plotnikov (and a slew of others) being in the roster is a diagnosis to the whole system

I agree with you. 145 million people, and Plotnikov and Burmistrov are among the best of the system?

If Russia finishes 3 or 4 in their pool do they travel to Petersburg for their quarter final? Or does the 1st or 2nd place team in Petersburg have to go to them in Moscow? I was under the understanding that 1st and 2nd in Petersburg stay there for their quarter final.

Russia has plenty of excellent players. She always had and always will. We lack coaches much more than players and it's also fault of unpatient bosses who want to win now and get teams playing bei-begi ruining our style and players

Considering the talent available to them, RUS team play, the communication/cohesion of their forwards and D ( or lack thereof ) have been a problem for some time now. Ditto their coaches' inability to make tactical adjustments on the fly ( see ' Russia has NO Plan B ' )

Even so, they're playing with several roster spots still open...And this is something that was planned from the get go.

They planned to bring in reinforcements and peak when the truly meaningful games start. Seems like sound thinking to me...

They'll be loaded for Bear when the tourney starts for real...

STOP WORRYING RUSSIANS!
