Just finished most side questlines, and yea this is where the game shines. Great writing, characters, and quests. (I really like the main story too). Each character feels unique from one another with their personalities and feelings, they feel like real people with real problems unlike a lot of games where they feel super artificial. You become attached to some of them, and their not just another checklist to mark off, you actually want to help them out. 85 hours in, and I have Rivers questline and act 3 main story left.

Wow. Guess I'm close to the end myself. But that's okay. Still got a big chunk of side quests to do.

Me too...really hadn't realized how short the main story was.

Of course I'm past 60 hours (effectively OCD with collecting shit and clearing stuff off of the map) and am around where you are, so that means I'll actually see the end of this (unlike most open-world games). Positives and negatives to a briefer main story. Almost all of my main story progress came in one play session, the rest has been side shit that I've almost entirely loved.

The bigger my save gets, the more things seem to get borked...but I'm still yet to experience a crash or bad bug. Immersion-breaking bugs have been the name of the game, but I don't tend to easily get immersed when I'm clearing out every possible item in a room while characters talk at me. Pretty glad that it took me a while to get going because I have little doubt I'd have run into the 8mb save issue prior to that last hotfix.

I haven't really noticed any changes the bigger my save has gotten tbh.

But on the subject of side content, man the Jefferson Peralez side quest line is outstanding. Wouldn't be surprised if Black Mirror writers get pissed they didn't think of the concept first (unless there was an episode like it in the new season I haven't watched)

When I said I wanted something shorter than Witcher 3, this isn't quite what I had in mind lol.

I figured act 3 would have a bit of a buildup to the final raid on Arasaka. The only path line that seems to is the one where you call in Panam and Saul for help. All the prep is done in the cutscenes/walking simulator type missions. But it's just like "get in there samurai you have a tower to trash"

Its far from a dealbreaker given the sidequests are a lot more robust story wise than most games. But the main quest still feels like you're on a rollercoaster and it abruptly just stops at the peak and then you're forced off the the ride.

Here's hoping the DLC delivers at a level Witcher 3 did. Because as much as I think its overrated the expansions (particularly blood and wine) were superb. That and if I can get a new game plus. I really don't want to slog through the early game again when you're so weak.

I'll note that I've absolutely abused the crafting system in the way that was apparently leading to save issues.

~95% of the issues I'm having are just NPCs floating or T-posing. The biggest issue I've had is my character getting stuck in a billboard somehow, but a save and a reload later and I was standing next to it again without any issues.

What system are you on? I saw one T-Pose on base ps4 in the streetkid opening sequence in the bar and that was it. And that was before the 1.06 patch. Never had floating NPCs.

All I've really seen since the 1.06 patch is the occasional rendering hitch that never lasts longer than a second or two, definitely driven and gotten momentarily stuck under cars, some FPS drops here and there (though it wouldn't surprise me if the game was running at 25 FPS for me), a pretty consistent bug where I can't switch to third person driving unless I reload my save file, a few game freezes, some slight jitters in character NPC movements, one time I loaded into a running "cutscene" and got stuck sitting in the same spot as Panam so I couldn't see her while she was talking, and a couple crashes but outside of that it's been running fine. Wish it looked nicer, but given that I'm on the base model from last gen I'm surprised it looks as good as it does.

"Luckily" enough for me I finally had to replace my old desktop in the summer, so I'm on a new mid-range PC. I have no doubt that my lack of crashes is because of that. My system is built more for editing than gaming, so I'm not getting 4K or HDR, but it still looks and runs great (40-45 fps at high) aside from the numerous NPC glitches I'm constantly seeing.

I watched cars run themselves into (as in halfway inside) guardrails and crash into each other for a solid 20 minutes yesterday. Not a single car could figure out how exits work

For me this has been the kind of jank I love. As long as it's NPCs bugging out and not doors failing to open on missions I'm golden. This game has made me laugh far more than I was expecting to...which is not what they were going for, but I'm having a blast. There's just something about a serious tone and 20 NPCs all cowering in a line with the same animation that makes me laugh and hate CDPR management.

I wish the quests came with level suggestions like they did in Witcher 3. Different stuff like "moderate risk" and "high risk" isn't specific enough for deciding what kind of order you want to go in. I'd like to do everything in some kind of ascending difficulty but not sure when I should go back to main quest or when to grind NCPD stuff, etc.

This was a really good watch.

I'd say the complaints about what was promised and underdelivered were incredibly valid, particularly with respect to the open world experience. Even with polish and updates, they way underdelivered on what was promised in the open world. Night City is a great looking backdrop for the side and main missions, but beyond that it's not a world you can really interact with.

However, the video really shows that it was based in pre 1.06 and 1.05 update times because a lot of the bugs and glitches showcased weren't present after those updates even on the base ps4 version. That's not to say that having that much of the game broken at launch is excusable, but given that this was released yesterday, it does make things feel a bit dated.

Though I also agree that character customization and uniquely designed armor feels really pointless when there's so few opportunities to see V (though he's wrong that the only way to see V is by looking in a mirror. You can see him/her if you ride a bike and drive third person, but obviously that's still not enough).

Beat it at 95 hours. Overall I'd give it a 8.5 or 9. Got the sun ending, which I felt was probably the most canon ending so I was happy. Won't be jumping in until dlc comes out, and hopefully new game plus.

Now i'm debating if i want to play it again with a melee build since some of the stuff i seen on twitch makes running around with a katana look fun as ****
I don't have a melee build (basically have been ignoring this the whole game), but I've started to run all low threat side missions and 'assault in progress' etc stuff like this after I found a pretty good katana and it's super fun. Trying to execute combos with slide and double jump is fun as hell. An I'm one of those poor souls who plays this on PS4 so it doesn't run that smoothly. Once I replay this game whenever the PS5 version comes out, I'll definitely consider building around this.

How exactly do cars work in this game? Can you own multiple at a time? How do you choose which one you want to call? Can you modify them?

Yes you can own multiples. You hold the key/button you use to call the car and it will let you select from a menu.

I don't think you can modify them....but, to be fair, I haven't tried.

I’m trying to finish up the side quests I like before entering the “point of no return”, which is the next mission. Some of then intrigue me (Rogue, Judy) and some don’t really (River Ward, Delamain). I’m planning to play again when its enhanced for next gen so I dont feel like I need to power through all of them.

Finally worked through the character side quests you mentioned as well as Panam. Agree entirely. River's questline was actually pretty intriguing but I didn't get enough from the voice actor to really care about his personal involvement, honestly it felt more like a mission for his sister's sake than anything which is understandable but I just didn't quite feel moved by River.

Delamain was literally a fetch quest that thankfully at least had different experiences for each car but there was really nothing interesting about it from a wider perspective. Some AIs became too advanced. Didn't result in anything compelling.

Judy's, of the three you mentioned was the most intriguing because 1. every moment and every narrative development felt deeply personal to Judy and 2. actually felt like V was making a significant difference in people's lives. I know in River's quest you save more than just River's nephew but Judy's overall quest felt more impactful and had a dash of revenge thrown in there. Also felt like Judy overall was the strongest of the three (unless I've somehow missed a side questline for the gay male romance character) romanceable characters.

I'd say that Panam's questline was a mixed bag. She becomes more endearing the further you go along but I didn't feel like the voice actress effectively captured just how, well, mood swingy Panam can be. One moment she can be soft, caring, and pensive and the next she's crass, brazen and bullheaded all capped off by an over enunciated style of speech that is...character unique but just makes Panam inconsistent as a character. Parts of the questline work really well, but after rescuing Saul it doesn't feel as...I don't know, meaningful. It's hard to get invested when the rescue of Saul is such an 80s action movie style banger and then you follow it up with a finale that feels more like a tech demo for a tank you'll never use again than a fitting finale to a storyline. And then the drama with Saul feels so vague and resolves itself a little too neatly. I didn't find it as unfulfilling as River's and especially Delamain's but it just had enough missed potential to not feel like a total winner. At least it gave me an excuse to explore the Badlands some.

Also bought myself a Rayfield Caliburn, since I have almost all the worthy cyberware and don't have much else but vehicles to burn money on.

It's a treat to look at and the engine sounds incredible, plus it has a really satisfying interior. Drives better than other cars I've been behind the wheel of but it is a bummer to do damage to the thing.

Got credits last night after passing the 70 hour mark. Tried out a few of the different endings.

I really, really enjoyed this game.

Despite all the bugs, all the dishonesty, the disastrous development and launch, all the content that was advertised but never made it into the game (which all rightfully deserves heaps of criticism).... I loved the game at its heart. Great adventure in a horrifying but mesmerizing setting.

I went in with very low hype, as first person isn't really my thing. My hype level was even lower thanks to all that came out before launch, but especially during/after the launch disaster. I came out more than pleasantly surprised in that regard. In fact, I was a bit shocked at how much fun I was having....

Gameplay was jank, but also a lot of fun. I ran a quickhacking/pistols combo, with just enough in Cool to benefit from the pistol-headshot-from-stealth insane crits. Silenced revolver primary, smart pistol secondary. Ran a katana on backup, but by the end with legendary Ping, you can pretty much clear a room with just quickhacking and if anyone charges you, you can cripple them with hacks and pick 'em off at your leisure.

The content issue is very noticeable, however. There are a lot of things that feel like they should matter, but ultimately don't....and don't make a ton of sense.

The storyline was interesting, and the characters really stood out for the most part. The main story is relatively short, but the side quests that stem off of the main quest with the main characters are where the game tends to really shine.

Once some more patches and content drops, I will probably do another playthrough. Might switch up to play as female V next time. I ran with male V this time, but I didn't think the voice actor was particularly strong.

I'm hoping this game gets expansions with the quality of the Witcher III (reportedly....I still have to play them. Should probably reinstall Witcher III.....). There's a lot to expand upon here.

For now, though, work on polish for sure. They have a lot of ground to make up. DLC can and should wait.

And finally, as much as I personally enjoyed it and want to recommend it, it's a bit of a tough sell. There's a lot you have to tolerate to get at the meat of this game, as good as that meat may be in my opinion.

In 6-12 months once it's more polished and you can buy the "complete edition" or whatever, absolutely.
