Odds are an intern typed this. Likely candidate is that poor new social admin.
More like an intern was forced to prompt ChatGPT at gunpoint.

This still won’t be over. The Yotes will move and then we’ll have months and years of topics about if they will build an arena and get a team back again.
I mean, Quebec has an arena, the nationalists think it's their god given right to have the Nordiques back.

So, Chris Creamer brought up a good point today on his website.

Every suspended team besides the OG Senators never did come back after they took a leave of operations. The Quebec Bulldogs didn't have things ready in the first season so I don't think it's fair to count them.

If the NHL decides to treat the Utah team as an expansion franchise, how long will they put up with the arena stuff in Arizona?

They’re already not putting up with it. That’s the whole point of this happening.

It’s up to the market to come up with one, Meruelo just has the right to be the first person to try.

I think the rumored timeline is 5 years? So 5 years, max. And now that I think about it, that would seem to jive with 35/36 if 33/34's announcements are waiting on deck.

A good number of us on here think they're going to 36. Houston and Atlanta are 33/34. 35/36 are anyone's guess at this point with no clear favorite. Anything can happen.

Phoenix and Quebec.

No one's said it yet, but I will. The Arizona Coyotes will be back in the NHL

Incorrect. The San Jose Sharks had the special draft of Minnesota North Stars players to unmerge the franchises, they ARE the old California Golden Seals/Cleveland Barons.

Hot take: Meruelo will take the money, lose the auction, and own the NBA team in Vegas, and fix up his Reno place. The NHL won't rush back into Phoenix because of Vegas, Utah and LA. Much different than just having the NHL Hurricanes in the southeast.

NHL won't be back in AZ for at min 10 years. AM is going to be reinvesting in nevada as you said.
NBA may be still a couple years, I think the ball is in Seattle s side of the ice on that one.

How on earth is Meruelo going to afford an NBA team? That's like $5bn.

NBA already has told Meruelo to f*** off once before, ain't no way they're taking an even sketchier version with shittier credit.

I mean the biggest reason they even got a team down there in the first place was because of the snowbirds from the Midwest. Phoenix is renowned for Michigan, Minnesota, and Calgary residents seasonally live there when the snow hits.

Utah isn't going to scratch that itch. While I don't think Phoenix would be next in line for an expansion team, it would be Top 10 easily.

Here a crazy prediction the NHL will expand to three markets before Meruelo get to"reactivate" his franchise if he ever does, and he won't get a cent of those three expansions. That's one of the reason they wanted him out ASAP, and if in five years Arizona is not ready somebody else will be for that fourth spot. I pretty much guarantee the Salt Lake guy had to waive away getting any expansion fees for probably the next five years also. So instead of 32 shares of the expansion pie they divide it by 31 or even 30 if Seattle are still in that window.

Even if he had the money the NBA doesn't like the guy. Atlanta Spirt (yes those bozos) were about to sell to Meruelo and backed out last minute while also making all parties sign an NDA. NBA must have seen something in the dude and ran away.

All before he bought two hotel/casinos in Nevada.

His rep in AZ may be bad now but unless similar things have happened in Nevada he won’t be looked at there the same way.

And he still has the AHL team. Could become something better out of it.
