CXLVIII - Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo had 'productive' meeting with Phoenix mayor

So the severance is one month or is it 2 weeks? Most places get paid either bi-weekly or semi-monthly and they are getting an amount equal to one paycheck.
At least healthcare is for covered for all of July.

Alex Jr. is essentially running an AHL franchise right now.

Back when Jerry Reinsdorf was trying to buy the Coyotes prior to bankruptcy it was thought he was going to turn the keys over to his son, Michael, to run the franchise. The only redeeming qualities he had was running an ECHL team in Stockton at the time.

Hearing HB2274 passed the Arizona Senate today.

HB2274 is the “strike all” bill that inserts changes to the definition of “theme park district” in the Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) and would bypass the city approval requirement (unless the city wants to participate). Would still require county approval. (this was amended... see below)

Still needs a meeting between the AZ house and senate to resolve differences before it can clear both bodies, but if approved it would then go to the governor for signature (or veto).


UPDATE: Looks like the House also approved it today and it's been transmitted to the Governor. AZ has no pocket veto so if the Governor takes no action at all within five days it goes into effect.

UPDATE #2: The bill was amended somewhat, that if the district fell within an incorporated part of a city, it would still require city approval.

Regardless of how transferable the skills are it's always a challenge when you're switching industries. Can someone who sold Coyotes season tickets become a pharma rep? Sure. Will a pharma company hire them over someone who
already has pharma experience? Probably not.

Well that and exposure he would have gotten being the son of the owner of the White Sox and Bulls.

Basically any negative story about AM is going to make it harder for him to get a deal done. Again he has a reputation problem and literally everything he does and doesn't do only feeds into the narrative.

The land trust isn't going to care as long as he puts the money up.

Phoenix isn't going to care because it's an election year and no candidate up for election/re-election in their right mind is going to come out in support of a tax incentive.

Well if he wins and closes on time then he could easily wait until after the election to make his deal with the city. He would still need buy-in from some level of government and investors to make this happen and everything he does makes it harder

He's not wining the auction. Let's get real. Meruelo has no intention of building a new arena in Arizona. That would require money, organization, competence, and work. Things that are not in his wheelhouse. His specialty is grifting and fraud.

He's going to get "outbid" at the auction and release some BS statement about how he tried his darndest. Then he's going to take his $1B payout from the NHL to the bank laughing.

Agreed, even if he shows up at all. He will conveniently lose the auction to cut bait but look like he tried.

Whether he does or doesn’t we’ll find out in about nine days.

In the meantime if you want to get all giddy over articles that mean nothing then help yourself. Because that’s what megathread does.

I’m not going to bother unless there’s something that’s actually noteworthy.

I think the league is good if that happens. I highly doubt they want him back k anyway.
