Yeah, I'm sure everyone knows that if you move during the year and the tax bill is sent to a different address then that means you get a pass on paying your state taxes that year.

It's a wonder more of us don't try this......

PS: I don't stumble any more. I've had both hips replaced with titanium ones. All for free, of course, since I live in Canada.
The previous ownership made the move from offices in westgate to the arena itself.. they didn't change the mailing address with the state to receive tax bills. Blame the pigeon in accounting for that not a new ownership group just walking in the door.

The bill was a hell of a lot less than what the team paid for an annex at ASU.. they have money

From the 12news.com website...poll ahead of tonight's Tempe vote...results as of this post...

SHOULD TAXPAYERS FUND SPORTS STADIUMS?

Absolutely - 12%
No Way - 88%

www.12news.com/bullhorn

---

The Tempe council will very likely...vote not for approving the actual proposal...but will be voting to place the issue...in a referendum...should enough signatures are gathered by the deadline...for the Tempe voters...to approve or reject...in a special election in May 2023...

Lots of 'stuff' will be happening between now and then...for sure...

"Stuff" like junk polls. ;)

Considering it's a loaded and misleading question to begin with. The arena is privately built and it will be the only one in Arizona that isn't publicly funded.

That viewer poll also draws from around the state and don't mean jack here.

Xavier Gutierrez has already admitted it was their mistake about the wrong address being on file.

It's a mistake the Coyotes are taking ownership on. Time to move on from it.

Since you seem to have inside info and like to reference at least two polls that the team/council took regarding this matter could you elaborate on who was polled? and what the actual question was for those polls. If you will not or cannot then , since we know that it would be in the teams best interest to get a positive result, then we have to consider that it was likely a misleading question posed to … I dunno, maybe the team’s ST base ? At least we know the question and the actual results from this viewer poll, it’s not some vague reference first promoted by team lapdog Coyote Morgan.

Just that it was reported they had taken two polls of Tempe residents and they were both positive.

The Channel 12 poll Llama referred to above was a generic question that anyone could have answered. It's been long established that the overall public in AZ is not in favor of direct taxpayer funds building arenas/stadiums.

When Phoenix looked to renovate Footprint Arena the public was NOT in favor of it. The city got around it by using funds already earmarked for downtown improvements. So it didn't have to be exposed to a public vote.

Again the poll mentioned "taxpayer money being used to fund stadiums" in general. Because up until TED, every one in Arizona was. Menuelo is using private funds to build his. The bonds are covering the required infrastructure costs (land reclamation, water/sewer/power, road improvements, etc) NOT the actual construction of TED itself.

Plus the deal is crafted with a CFD, so those bonds are being paid off by revenues generated by TED. It's not coming from the current residents of Tempe. The CFD is a legal entity in itself, meaning the CFD is issuing the bonds to pay for the infrastructure costs.... and it's not all up front. It's coming in four phases and each phase has to be funded before the bonds for the next phase can be issued.

So the answer to my question about the two polls that you have referred to previously is that you have no idea what the actual question(s) were nor do you know anything about to whom the questions were posed. So the reality is that this network poll that you were quick to attack actually is more open than the two mystery polls that you have referred to in the past. Everyone knows that the Coyote polls taken had to have a positive result or they were not gonna say boo about them. Who knows how many polls they had to take to get two poll results that they felt were positive. And what is a positive result for them 51-49 %? Anyways, I am quite pleased that it will very likely go to a referendum, probably more so than anyone in the Coyote organization. Good move by Tempe council if it goes that way.

Sounds like Sky Harbor is no longer opposing the proposal.

Lots of back patting coming from their rep for both sides.
I would think that they would want this to go to the referendum route as well.

I've never promoted those polls as anything other than they were positive and it's partly what drove the Coyotes to ask for the referendum.

Possibly. Kinda surprising response from the rep. I didn't expect it.

It’s just a little curious to me that with their poll results, why would they not promote their results? If they actually have poll results that show strong support then why not come out and say it?

Probably were internal polls for their own consumption to aid in what direction they want to go.

Missed Bettman's comments but he confirmed the 30-year non-relocation agreement will be there.
I know you said that you missed his actual comments but I am curious..what did he say the penalty would be in the event of relocation before 30 years? It would have to be substantial based on franchise values? Couple hundred million plus???

I haven't seen any details of what that agreement involves yet. Or if it's between the team and NHL, or NHL and city.

I've asked Craig Morgan via Twitter if he knows.

Votes to rezone land: 7-0 in favor on both parts.

Vote to approve DDA (subject to the referendum): 7-0 in favor.

Coyotes will be working to gather the required signatures to qualify for the May 16 referendum. But any other group can do the same.

My understanding of the city council decision remains the same:

There is no automatic referendum scheduled for May 16th.

If the Coyotes don't gather the signatures for a referendum, the City of Tempe has a three month option to revoke their approval of the DDA. Which of course isn't going to happen.

If a opposition group gathers enough signatures for a May 16th referendum then it will be on the ballot.

I went by Mayor Woods' closing comments.

I expect there will be at least another group moving to gather signatures themselves.

Didn't catch his name, but there was one fella in the public comments saying he would be collecting signatures to oppose the DDA.

Dunno how much clout he has, but at least wore a suit to the meeting.

And what does he think the city is going to do with that landfill its going to cost the city money to do anything with it regardless of the project is he going to oppose those other projects too? Any local city resident can collect signatures.

The were guys in suits who were just plain nuts. But… Not surprising.

I think both the city and Coyotes knew that would happen and it’s why they grabbed control of the timeline for a vote.

Haven't been following this as closely as before. But my understanding was that the city and team need approuvals in 2022 (to be vague) to go ahead and open the arena by 2024.

I guess, if there is an referendum on May 16th, how does that influence the Coyotes having to play extra year-or more at ASU ?

A secondary question : Is it mandatory for an referendum at this point, or if by established deadline no one opposes to the DDA/gathers enough signatures for a referendum, the city and team simply go ahead with their proposed projet ? I am not sure how this aspect affects them. Feels like everyone wants the referendum but I am just not sure if the lack of oppositon to the project could mean a green light without having to make it a referendum question.
