It's a new article on the subject. You can think it's mostly old news, but certainly it's relevent to post it in my opinion.

And to insult someone for doing so is (once again in my opinion) grossly innapropriate. Certainly a lot of articles re-state facts.

If you have a problem it should be with the Journal, not with Llama.

Well then according to YOUR opinion we should just repost all the articles from the last 130 or so chapters of the megathread. Never know.... there might be a fact somewhere that was overlooked.

I didn't have a "problem" with the article. I took the time to tell what it really was. And since it's on a paywall site it's virtually useless to the discussion

I have been here for many years too. What I am saying is that I do not want the all-too common toxic online bullying culture to develop in these boards. This isn't supposed to be a swamp like Twitter.

We can have strong opinions and still not act like jerks.

You've been sitting on the sidelines for pretty much most of it.

Also a bit amusing to talk about a "bullying" environment developing in this forum, given the narratives over the years being lobbed around on this forum, not at just the Coyotes fanbase in general, but individual posters from that group as well.

But..... megathread gonna megathread.

Hey, at least he didn't imply you were a jerk. #babysteps.

It was a NEW article. Fresh off the presses. You are arguing against a strawman, not what I said.

But anyways. This isn't worth the energy I'm putting into it.

Apparently since I only frequently participate here for over a decade (rather then 24/7) I'm just "on the sidelines".

Whatever. I just want this place to be fun and not hostile. I understand there's a lot of (wrongful) hate towards the Coyotes... but that's not a reason to be toxic towards others.

That's all. No offence meant. I think this forum is a great place, and it should remain fun.

Been well known since the beginning that the annex won't be ready until December.

ASU is possibly allowing the Coyotes to use the facilities within the community rink arena of the MPU until the annex is ready.

This part offers some new bits of info:

"According to the venue license agreement between the Coyotes and OVG, which the Business Journal received from ASU, the Coyotes must give a percentage of most advertising sales inside the arena, as well as seating and food and beverage revenue to OVG and ASU. The Coyotes do get to keep all sales from luxury suites and merchandise.

An ASU spokesman said the university estimates that it’ll receive about $2 million a year from the Coyotes under the agreement."

Coyotes and OVG also have a one year sales partnership agreement.

So I'm guessing the ~$2 million ASU gets will cover utilities, security, and other expenses for hosting Coyote games. Would OVG get a similar amount?

Not sure yet.

There is the agreement between OVG and ASU to operate the MPA. Then there’s a sales agreement between OVG and the Coyotes.

I’m going on the premise that ASU gets around $2 million from the lease rent, share of the concessions and parking (ASU controls all of that).

Have the yotes and tempe started their conversations yet? Any news?
No news….. However the conversation has been ongoing throughout the process. The only thing that’s actually changed is neither side is no longer restrained from making public comment.

If I've learned anything from this thing it's that no news is no news, good news and bad news all at the same time.

Thanks Legend I tried to follow the thread but it seems to go into a lot of back and forth on why the Yotes can't succeed.

Well there’s a rumor that the proposal is pretty much set and it’ll go forward to the final approvals when the two new council members come in. But I’d rather avoid that stuff. Just like any of the “Plan B” talk.

Tempe has scheduled the next council meetings for July 1st and August 18th.

The July meeting has essentially two tasks and that’s to aware in the new council members and select a vice mayor.

Therefore unless a special netting pops up, the absolute earliest we could see movement with the Coyotes’ proposal is now the August 18th meeting.

Is the current Vice mayor the one that spoke about being a red wings fan?

Primarily covers the IGA and it’s vaguely. Also brings up the lack of enforcement from both sides.

After that letter that they sent out saying they don't care about the residental units only if tempe will cancel out the agreement and the IGA saying what tempe/coyotes can do is allowed as long it's under a certain noise level. but saying phx intentionally ignoring that will come back to hurt them if this ends up in the court room.

I am hitting the paywall. Can you summarize?

It's a bit long and protracted, but I'll give it a shot...

It's outlining the argument between Phoenix and Tempe/Coyotes over the housing units of Meruelo's proposal so close to the airport.

Sky Harbor, of course, says the housing is incompatible, but the language in the IGA does not distinctly define it. Tempe has been allowing housing units be built within the zone for the past 18 years without ay objections from the airport. The only thing that IS defined is being within that zone, the FAA has declared federal funds can't be used to mitigate the noise levels. Their letter a few months back the Coyotes and Tempe outlined that.

The other side of it is..... aircraft were supposed to use a specific path in and out of the airport over the Salt River. This minimalized aircraft noise over homes and apartments in Tempe. And it forced aircraft to use a "slide over" maneuver at the last moment which a lot of pilot don't like to use (especially with the south runways) because in inclement weather it becomes dangerous. They stopped using the maneuver in around 2004 and have taken straight in approaches/departures since.

IOW.... both Phoenix and Tempe have been cheating on the agreement over the years to some degree.

In the end though, the IGA includes a lot of vague language and the Coyotes feel it holds enough loopholes to allow their project to be built. Sky Harbor says those 'loopholes" don't apply because the project is too new.

Of course if the IGA were terminated (something Phoenix would LOVE to see happen) then this is all moot. But that's not an ideal situation for Tempe.

One way or another this is probably going to end up in court. Even if Tempe and the Coyotes were to win, the problem for the Coyotes is the delay could take months, if not years and they have a short window. For Tempe it would cost them dearly in legal bills and lost revenue from leaving what is their last undeveloped property sitting idle.

This is Phoenix. It rained for 5 minutes at 3 am a couple days ago, and it literally scared the hell out of me because I had forgotten what rain sounds like.

We get 9 inches of rain a year, and 5 inches will come in a week stretch in like Feb, and the rest is five-minute long storms in the middle of the night.

Yeah, the issue is probably wind shear with those monsoon thunderstorms from about now thru September...but compared to almost everywhere else we have less 'inclement weather'. I still say nothing that gets built near Sky Harbor could ever compete danger-wise with the 'excitement' of large passenger planes approaching the neighborhoods of downtown San Diego from the west .

For those wondering how the Coyotes would come out with ASU hockey taking up a lot of weekends… schedule was released today.

It includes 6 Friday, 4 Saturday and 9 Sunday games. Or about half what they normally would have at GRA.

The front third of the schedule is brutal. Six road games followed by four home games (in October) and a 15 game road trip after that. Not anything that wasn’t expected though.

If I am doing the math correctly....41/7 is almost exactly 6 games each day of the week, or 18 F/Sa/Su games. So, that's nearly a perfect distribution....EXCEPT that NHL plays much more on Tu/Th than on Mon/Wed...so, in reality, there is less weekend play than you would expect even without weekend games being emphasized as they are in most schedules.
