Wrong.

I have an MBA and currently work in the world of finance and in my professional opinion I see no point in continuing to chat with someone so uninformed.
Deflect away, still haven't given any info regarding his debt situation.

Are you quoting Covid revenues?

Winnipeg has routinely been ahead of it's expansion peers for a number of years in revenue.

Its valuation is artificially low.

They slap on a ton of value arbitrarily to bigger cities. When Winnipeg has been ahead of cities like Colorado with some regularity.

I said three years ago so that was pre CoVID.

I’m a huge fan of True North BTW. They’re the kind of ownership that spent almost ten years working their way up to get an NHL franchise back. They’re built to handle a small loss for a year or so because they have other revenue streams that can easily offset it.

That's what Meruelo hopes to do if he can get his entertainment district proposal through. Develop multiple revenue streams from housing, sports betting and retail that can buffer the Coyotes. If he builds a winning franchise that turns a profit then all the better.

But he can’t do that in Glendale. That ship sailed the day Steve Ellman and Jerry Moyes broke their partnership and separated the Coyotes from Westgate.

Neither have you for that matter. But you did offer an opinion of what it was.

Hell I’m still wondering what Meruelo spent to get the 95% share of the Coyotes he has. For all we know it was anything from cash to full debt assumption or some combination inbetween.

Bettman during the ASG presser asked about the Coyotes. I'm sure someone will post it soon

Short synopsis.....says it's complicated :)

Meruleo commited to market and is optimistic on the plan in Tempe.

Says Glendale has shut the door, wanted a 20 year lease and nothing else....we knew that already.

Seemed to give some shade towards the Suns saying apparently they're not interested in hosting them short term. Maybe they want them out of the market. Made no mention of Chase Field.

Says ASU will work short term but only if Tempe is going to happen. Something is not doable indefinitely.

Do I think CASE secretly consists of people connected to other area franchises and facilities including GRA? I might.

Do I think Meruelo deserves serious scrutiny? Probably. Eh, very likely. But it smells like adults behaving badly all around.

I’m going to presume here seat pricing will be club level and higher and 41 sellouts.

CASE is based in Phoenix. So you have a couple of suspects you can investigate. ;)

I expect to see others come out of the woodwork before it’s over.

So the current situation in Glendale is 'that' bad ;)

Maybe that projections include a playoff round or two.... modeling needs to account for every scenario

Don’t know. But I know what you’re getting at.

Coyotes are at the max in revenue sharing so that’s a dead horse. (That’ll surely get beat on here some more before it’s over :sarcasm:)

Those rev projections though have to be potential (or max)

Man can’t wait to see seating prices.

Actually I think the projection he's referring to includes parking lot revenue.....

Anyone expecting him to say something other than what he said was dreaming in technicolour and I really hope no one legitimately takes him at his word especially in the media. He will say that publicly 24 hours before the team announces a relocation even if the paperwork has already been signed.

"It's ok me and my son talked, it's all ok, I'm gonna spend $45,000 a year paying for my son to study unicycle riding, there's no reason to get upset, everything is ok, I mean he could of took that money and spent it on something useful like a law degree, but trust me there's no reason to get upset. There's plenty of money in unicycle riding, there's no reason to get upset. "

Not sure what you're talking about. Your quote... has nothing to do with this situation. Yotes are getting the same revenue sharing regardless, also Gary didn't mention league revenues at all. Or unicycle riding for that matter.

For better or worse Gary had to say something like this, especially at this time. He's basically giving Alex Meruelo a chance to get a new arena in Tempe. IF the new arena in Tempe comes through, playing in a substandard barn for a few years isn't the worst thing, like Gary said other teams do it all the time.

That said substandard barns have more than 5,000 seats, so that's not great. But the commissioner of the NHL has to at least be guardedly positive about the situation otherwise no chance of the Tempe City Council voting "yes" on the new arena

If you go 100 miles north of the St Lawerence River there's nothing but tundra.
You can drive from Gatineau(western Quebec) to Rimouski(the far far east of Quebec) in 7 hours. You more or less have 8 million people within a 4 hour drive of QC.

Which is partially why I chuckle when people taking about how long it takes to drive across Phoenix to get to games. Quebec has far less traffic than Arizona. People will drive far further.

4 hours? That's great! So what, would they take a day off in the middle of the week to go to a hockey game?

The lengths they go to still throw shade on Glendale is hilarious. Ignore the arena they built you, the $50M cash you extorted from them, the $15M AMF you swindled out of them, the dirt cheap rent they charged you, once the money spigot was turned off it's all Glendale's fault the team is homeless.

I'll never forget this gem Uncle Gary spewed the night they cancelled the AMF, which LeBlank(spelling intentional) quickly parroted....

"If I lived in Glendale, I would be concerned about my government."

Never change, Gary.

LOL Gary threw shade at Calgary! WHEW, buddy. Gary isn't in touch anymore IMO. Some of his answers on a range of topics were totally poor to very bad (Blackhawks/Beach).

Gary hitting the spearmint rhino a bit too hard last night.

Bad looks for the league all around.

Gary throwing stones all over the glass house so to speak.

Gary doesn't sound overly positive, puts it all on AM, no attachment to the league. "he's confident" not "we're confident"

That should tell you everything you need to hear.

What do you expect him to say?

It’s always been on someone willing to get another arena built in Arizona and the league will support it.

He said the same damn thing about Houston for crying out loud.

Funny… I thought I was in the Arizona thread. How’d I get transported to the Calgary thread??

If you control your arena for concerts, that adds a ton of value compared to a market like Winnipeg.

Basically, Bettman goes "I will support the Coyotes staying in Arizona until my dying breath. Even if they have to play in an outdoor parking lot, they will stay in Arizona. Relocating the Coyotes is NOT an option!"

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman expresses more support for Coyotes ownership in arena matter

To quote:

"The Arizona Board of Regents is expected to consider ASU’s proposal at its meeting Thursday (February 10).

The documents say that in December 2021, the Coyotes approached ASU to propose playing their 2022-2023, 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 home games at the multipurpose arena, with the Coyotes' lease for Gila River Arena ending at the conclusion of this season. That would indicate that the Coyotes feel a new arena would be ready for use by the 2025-2026 season, but the project is still yet to be approved by the City of Tempe.

Also in the documents, the university is asking the board to approve the construction of a two-story, 15,000 square-foot annex structure adjacent to the northeastern edge of the arena. This annex will accommodate NHL-quality home and away team dressing rooms, training areas, equipment rooms, nutrition stations, a coaches work room, team storage and a fitness room.

All costs for the annex building and the required facility upgrades will be paid by the Arizona Coyotes, the university said in its proposal. The annex building will remain after the completion of the proposed new Arizona Coyotes arena and will be put to further use by the university."
