Who do you want the Devils to take at #2 assuming Wright goes 1st overall?

In other words, the example of top 5 picks being more or less equal can exist only in theory.

I don’t agree this is true.

Teams have clearly discussed they see players as existing in tiers where they’re semi-indifferent to which prospect they get from that tier.

It is unusual for the top pick or two to not separate themselves into their own tier but it’s certainly not impossible. There may be teams this season that view the first 2 or 3 picks in their own tier and would be basically indifferent as to which they drafted.

Montreal would never draft an european with 1st overall pick. Even if that player was Ovechkin level talent.

I love Matt Loughlin.

So the consensus #1 pick for years from Canada falls to a rising European. Montreal gets a 3rd line winger, Devils get a bust, and Seattle drafts a Calder, Norris, and Conn Smythe trophy winning defenseman.

I still think MTL goes Wright, but we’ll see. Point is, we’re getting a hell of a prospect regardless and a better one than we thought we’d get drafting 5-6.

I think it really depends on if they trade for a center. I could see them making a splash at the draft and trading for PLD and taking Slaf. Gimme that.

Point still stands in the sense that we exit the draft in a better position than we thought we would a few months back! ;)

I think Wright at #2 might actually improve the value of the #2 pick. A team like Chicago might fall in love with the opportunity to select Wright to kick off their rebuild.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

I'd rather have Wright than DeBrincat for a year before he bolts. I'm skeptical he'd have any interest in any sort of semi-reasonable extension with NJ.

lol Well that depends on your POV. If we stuck at like 5-6 then and I'd rather be there to take Jiricek over 2 and take Slaf. If Wright's there I agree.

Well it wouldn't get done without any extension. I could see a scenario where we take Wright and then when FA opens up and Debrincat is eligible to extend there's a sign and trade.

I would legit believe the Habs fans actually rushing the stage in anger at that point.

And Cooley would be like "What did I do??? HELP!!" and hide behind Daly (or Bettman) using him as a human shield.

But it would leave the Devils in quite the Conundrum......OR Fitz could have a deal in place with Arizona who wants either Slaf/Wright and we'd take whomever is remaining....

But this scenario is as likely to happen as Jon Gillies winning the Vezina.

He's 18.

last I checked, I believe it is permitted for 18 year old NHL'ers to....oh I don't know.....IMPROVE?
Every prospect has question marks. I have question marks for every single prospect every single year. Of course prospects can improve, and I am very much expecting Slaf to. I’m just saying that those are the areas he needs to work on in order to reach his fullest potential, and those are also some reasons that people are lower on him. I have him at #2, so I’m quite high on Slaf, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some things I’d like to see him get better with.
