Lol

yes, I'd love for my team to be named after something that requires google research

Literally nobody thinks of hurricanes when you say north carolina
And you think of Rangers in NYC? Or Bears (Bruins) in Boston? Or Panthers in Florida? Or Predators in Nashville? Or Ducks in LA? Or Kraken in Seattle?

nobody thinks of Tampa or Dallas when they think of lightning bolts or stars. I’m sure there are lots of Penguins in Pittsburgh.

seems like an odd argument you are making.

For shits and giggles, I decided to look up the States that have been hit with hurricanes. Our resident Mississippian might find it difficult to accept but his Mississippi has only had a few more hurricanes that have made landfall than states like Massachusetts and New York since 1851. Of course, NC has had almost 3 times more hurricanes hit than MS.

Thing is, his exact quote to start this was:

“and why are they the hurricanes anyway? They aren't any hurricanes in nc”

He later changed the goalposts talking about which category, etc..rather than admit he was wrong.

lol, yeah he was trolling and doing it badly. Tough to troll the HF26 crowd. It's all fun to us. Thanks to all who jumped in.

When Toronto makes it to the round 3 and plays in Buffalo, the arena will probably be sold out as it should be. Massive number of fans will, and I applaud them, make the trip from Toronto. (Obviosly there is strong support locally too in Buffalo.) It is going to be an all-out insane atmosphere.

Obviously, Canada coud organize these games themselves, but they just do not seem to want to do so. Go figure.
Except Canada won't let you out of the Country and on return, they'll make you pay thousands of dollars to stay at a hotel. Plus you'll have to quarantine for 14 days.

why is the hurricanes mascot a pig tho

Because of the rescue pigs, of course. They make those Newfoundlands look like amatures the way the school to the rescue.

I grew up in MA. I remember in the 1980s we had a nasty one and my brothers had to grab me because I started flying away. In 1953, I think it was Hurricane Edna, one almost killed my sister by inches from falling debris everywhere. If I remember correctly from my studies and sailing on large ships for my career, most of hurricanes go up the eastern seaboard, not into the Gulf Coast. But when they do go into the Gulf, they tend to be nastier than up the Eastern seaboard. But the point is....why are they called the Hurricanes again? :sarcasm: Maybe, you all should have stuck with The Whale. :thumbd:

Can't believe someone tried to argue that NC doesn't get hurricanes.

While I totally agree with you and your fellow Jerks regarding hurricanes, there actually ARE real live panthers in the wild in South Florida and the Panthers hockey team regularly donates money towards preservation and education efforts regarding the endangered cats. And the Tampa Bay area was (until this year - darn you Oklahoma!) the lightning capital of North America.

Back on topic, after watching a bunch of playoff games, I have to agree that Florida and Carolina have the loudest crowds so far.

Even the Piedmont Blues are better than the Mississippi Delta blues :naughty:
Like the user name BTW. Ray, Cam, and Adam got me into hockey play the NHL games on the Sega Genesis and when Ray got traded to the Lanche I was glued to the TV for every playoff game that season and despite the Panthers getting swept that was an epic finals.

I know you know this but for the sake of our Miss. friend its because of NC BBQ

*pushes up glasses*

Actually, it’s because Wendell Murphy, pork mogul, gave millions to NC State and owned the original naming rights to the PNC Center (the RBC Center at the time). He got $22 million donated towards building the arena.

When the Hurricanes moved here, they wanted to recognize his efforts. Thus, the mascot became a hog and Stormy was born shortly after.

So in Florida is one thing, but what about the other states?

It's a difficult thing to enforce. Technically, there are rules for vaccinated people and a separate set of rules for unvaccinated ones. But there's no way to check if someone's vaccinated or not, since the vaccination is a private medical issue and there's no obligation for an individual to reveal that information. Businesses can request it and basically have to trust that the individual is telling the truth.
