Well I took Leafs in 7 in poll but must confess I got in wrong with Sammy .. all hail Sammy .. da new king tender for our team
Seems like a lot of people got it wrong with Sammy so no biggie. He's been so good though, it's a bit scary to think about because goalies are voodoo and so on so hard to say what he'll be going forward - kicking ass as our #1 goalie for the next few years, or perhaps fade away to mediocrity next season, just impossible to predict. Once you're hot, I think you stay hot for a while anyway though so I feel like Sammy's going to play really well for the rest of the playoffs, we'll see. Good thing Keefe didn't take him out for Woll at some point like some were suggesting, I mean I love Woll and maybe we win with him too but I don't know, that game 6 performance was something else boy, haven't a clutch game like that from a Leaf goalie since Belfour I think.

Been a half-glass poster for the larger majority of my time here. However, there are limits. I'm glad Reilly took this first round by the horns. But there were major, undeniable traits our club repeated and repeated that given better options, you always choose.

I'm no "bandwagoner". I'm a die-hard of the most tried and tested. I'm of a vintage that wasn't born while they had Cups, but not to long after their last one. So there's a group of like that haven't known success yet kept hoping against hope.

For me, the connection just switched when our group couldn't win on Salming's Night. Water under the bridge and as I've mentioned in our GDTs, I think the big man's with us.

Been eating humble pie for decades OP. Sick of it. Not about to eat it here amongst the faithful. But I am grateful that this team finally pushed and that we caught some breaks somehow, some way.

Had all the humility any fanbase can take. Time for some dignity.

On to the Panthers.
 Well done.

Rielly performance in the regular season warranted it.

Tavares has been streaky. Outside of game #2 he was invisible. He needs to step it up in round #2.
Rielly always ups his game in the post season.

Tavares wasn't on the score sheet but he was not invisible, he grinds every shift and is our best player against the boards. Granted at his salary you need to produce but John Tavares plays a playoff style year round.

I realize that I have been hard on people for their honest opinions. Accused people of not being fans and went out of my way supporting players that were unpopular for a spell.
That said...

Petty thread premise.

Good on the Leafs for winning a round. Maybe they can start playing better and win two.
Yeah not sure I understand it.
Is this the place for those that have been wrong for so many years to come and feel vindicated?

Wrong about what? Saying that one team "can't win" makes zero sense. Many people were saying the Leafs "can't win", those are the people were wrong, simple as that. That's the main premise of the thread, does that help? Sorry if I didn't make it more clear but it seems like it was clear enough for most of the people who have posted ITT.

I haven't noticed anyone over the years saying that the Leafs "can't lose" so when you refer to "those that have been wrong for so many years", I don't know what the heck you're talking about. Feel free to explain yourself though, always happy to listen. :)

I think the issue is many said the Leafs won’t win a cup with this core, so this thread is premature. At least that’s how I see it, you may see it differently and that’s fine as well.

Hopefully we can all agree that we want to see this team win it all or at the least make a nice run at it.

Many people have said that the Leafs will never win a playoff series with this core/Dubas/Keefe and every time we've lost a series, they've been gleefully saying see I told you so. They've been proven to be wrong (finally) so no, not premature.

Hopefully we all want to see the team win but there have been those who have said they hope we lose, and lose bad just to make sure that Dubas is fired and we bring in "a real GM". But whatever, there are millions of Leaf fans so not surprising that some people have their own agendas.

He scored the goal that won the series, did you miss that?

JT's been good, I'm happy with the way he's played and I'd be happy with more of the same against Florida. I mean you could always be better I guess, but it's not like he's been so mediocre that I'd say he "needs to step it up". JMHO.
Two big points in Game 5 too. Nice plays on the opening goal and a tip to Matthews with the goalie pulled.

I've been down on Rielly during the regular season, but man, has he elevated his performance these playoffs! What a stud...I'm sure Tessa is proud, lol...he clearly showed how he got ripped off not getting the Norris nomination that year getting beat by Hedman and the media clowns...the excuse for Hedman getting the nomination that year was 3 straight years of 50 plus point...talking about moving the goal post...how does having 3 straight years of 50 points factor into a given year's Norris race?

The crow is not bad.

This thread is really for all the pessimists who have been constantly crying… it’s Dubas, it’s Keefe, can’t win with Tavares, Marner, waaah the cap, the core, Matthews is gonna walk for nothing… it’s those guys, this board is littered with lots of doom and gloom.

The folks who thought we have no chance with this core… well, we just beat Tampa in 6 games… and we also know, after watching Boston and Colorado go down… any one of the 9 remaining teams could win the Stanley Cup.

Oh, and I heard we are now the odds on favourite… Go Leafs.

Matthew Knies was 13 when the Leafs played Washington in the post season

Everything that's happened before this season and this playoffs is ancient history.
