I don't think think Miller is irreparably soft or afraid of contact but this team's "always do the safe thing" vanilla ass culture has him in its grips.
He has no physical instincts. If the coaching and culture were so strong they'd at least be decent at a 1-3-1 that's been mostly standard in the league for 15 years.

They're not in his head. He just not instinctive with defending with physicality.

I mean I agree with the deep rooted softness with this core, but Fox is the last person I’m removing from the team. His good far, far, far outweighs his bad and it’s not even close.

If contracts didn’t matter Zibanejad would’ve been gone yesterday. He has to be one of the softest and least fiery players in the league. It feels like he couldn’t fight through tissue paper to win a puck battle.

There’s a lot of politeness to this core and a lot of what feels like apathy. It’s really weird.

This group has wanted the refs to fight their battles since the Wilson incident.

Oh enough of the soft nonsense, some of you don’t even know what that means. Trouba isn’t soft. Lindgren isn’t soft. Schneider isn’t soft. Cuylee isn’t soft. Some of you don’t even know what that means. The whole NHL is soft today that’s the game.

It has been a rough stretch and nothing is going right. I have seen 10 game stretches where Vegas, Colorado and Boston also looked like shit. Seattle was atrocious early in the season and has turned it around. This is what happens in an 82 game marathon season. It's game 41. I still think they will play better, especially when Kakko and Chytil return. All that matters is playing well in the spring as the playoffs approach.
Well, they can't play this way in the spring. But saying this is repeating every year over the last, what, 5 years?

This has been going on a few seasons now, with the exception of our goalies, who now have more holes than anyone after the St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

This team ain't winning shit unless they manage to move some deadbeats from this team, and that too is an impracticality.
We will see what this team looks like in March. Talk to me then.

Othmann also comes to the NHL and gets completely neutered because his teammates won’t back him up. Brodzinski gets boarded by Wilson and Anton Blidh is the only guy to his defense. We’ve become softer than the late Vigneault years
I agree, they don't have each others backs at all.

Turn the other cheek mindset. Emotionless hockey. No one cares about hits that lead to a scoring chance on the other end.

Not to mention that Panarin has regressed despite still picking up points. Panarin started out the season playing possessed like he had something to prove. He actually tried to hit the middle of the ice.
I hate to agree but it’s true. Early season Panarin was a monster, now he’s kinda regressed to what he’s been the last few years.

Let's just get this out of the way because I'm tired of people bringing it up.

Every time we drop an egg or sometimes even when we're winning, people say "I want Tkachuk."

There's two Tkachuk's.

Matthew Tkachuk is one of the five best players in the world, dominant on every inch of the ice, and is one of the last remaining legitimate bullies in 21st century hockey. We all want him, but we all want him in the way we all want McDavid. It's a pipe dream.

Brady Tkachuk f***ing sucks. He's Trouba at forward. His offense is good but nothing to write home about, and he sucks at everything else. He couldn't find the defensive zone or the neutral zone on the map. He mostly floats during actual play and his "leadership" consists of yelling, complaining, and shoving after the whistle. He's never in position, never tries to be in position, never could be in position if he did try because he doesn't get it, and doesn't score that much to justify it.

Brady is a complete loser whose team, despite being absolutely stacked with talent (probably more than us!!), can't win 30 games in a season. He's on my "do not acquire" list because he's f***ing garbage.

The bigger thing is they throw hits that are acceptable and understandable and do not bother the other team much at all. Those hits are empty calories and ineffective. That's why the other team doesn't really care.

One could argue that we were better off never sending the letter given the returns in the Trouba and Zibanejad deals. Also kills me that the Rangers werent more aggressive on M. Tkachuk or Eichel. None of their prospects have become anything we would’ve missed

In retrospect, I would have traded the whole organization for the good Tkachuk and rebuilt it around him.
