Not sure if it was you who pointed out that early-Ranger Zibanejad actually attacked the slot, compared to the perimeter player he is now. Sure, the concussions might've made him have to play this way. Panarin has stopped attacking the slot like he did early in the season. I learned in work-related training that when something that has to be done does not come naturally, that person can maybe adapt and do it for a while, but it becomes exhausting for that person.
I don't know, he had one good season here, but this is what he's been for awhile and mostly what he was in Ottawa. He's had bad underlying numbers for like 11 out of 13 seasons.

He's just not that good. He has skills with the puck on his stick but he needs a ring around him to use them. He can't do anything in tight spaces. Even if he had the willingness, he doesn't have the hands or the IQ. Unlike others, he's not fixable by changing the variables around him.

I would put him on the de facto "third" line with babysitters and just let him do his thing on the powerplay.

The injuries are killing the team right now. If we had Kakko and Chytil in the lineup we would have 3 scoring lines and the 4th line would be a solid shut down line. But as we are missing those guys we have 2 lines that are offensively inept and it's taking its toll on team defense too, maybe too many guys trying to do too much not playing within their own game and roles.

The defense corp is slumping hard tho.

The defense corps just sucks.

I've said it many times: the forward corps has some excuses and some combinations that might work better if they were possible.

The defense just isn't very good. They have two top-4 defensemen.

Lets get Kakko and Chytil back. Lets even get Pitlick back, maybe Edstrom. Lets see what they do at the deadline. Too much AHL crap in the lineup right now. This team is not going to look the same after the deadline. They can play much better.

They need more players willing and able to attack the slot on 5v5. It's a concept as old as time and not really a difficult one. Having people go to the middle of the ice opens up space. For Lavi and even for Gallant, and maybe Quinn and AV, they know that they don't have the horses to do this, so they are forced to try and get the most of what they can out of these perimeter players. No amount of yelling or screaming is going to change these guys. This is the proverbial roster hand they've been dealt.

Every. single. team. we. play. against. we. see. this. Good team. Bad team. They all go to the middle. On rushes. On cycles.

We do the blue line criss-crossing and diagonal long-distance passing.

Who cares? They are still 2nd in the east. That's all that matters right now. That will probably change though it they continue to play like shit.

We're very fortunate to have had opened up a huge cushion in the division standings. But the real indicator of the freefall we're in is the league table. We've fallen from first to potentially eighth (someone earlier said, if Kings and Stars win tonight) in a span of two weeks maybe. Yeah, you can say winning the league doesn't mean shit. But I'm talking a real tangible metric showing how bad we are right now. Our winning percentage has dropped like, what, 600 points?

You are exaggerating a bit. They have more in close and rebound goals this year than practically all of last year. They wouldn't be in first place if what you said was actually true.

We’re a top 3 team in the division but we’re not winning 4 rounds until we add multiple players (and subtract some) who will contribute to a mindset change.
I disagree. We either get it done, or not get it done, but adding players isn't making the difference. The biggest questions are with Zibanejad and Panarin, and how they can perform in the playoffs. Adding some depth isn't changing this one bit.

Just watch the pp in the third thats all you need to watch. Complacent. Soft No urgency to win puck battle. #20 the biggest culprit and totally appropriate he takes the penalty.

Is it bad that I hate Oshie
Caps fans say he the Wheeler of the Caps but every time he plays us he looks like prime Oshie.

Yea no kidding we have fallen in the standings. I'm not denying that have been playing like shit for weeks now. That doesn't mean it will continue. I still think it's part of the trials and tribulations of a marathon grind of a season and injuries. There are other good teams who have gone through some really bad stretches. People here act like the Rangers are the only one when in reality it's nearly every team in this league that has looked like shit at times. They will still likely wind up with 100+ points. I don't care if they have the most points in the league or win the division. It means very little. Last years SC finalists started playing well as the playoffs neared. That's all I care about because the roster will be different.

If you think this team is winning shit I have a bridge to sell you.

I won't even bother asking you to statistically back this up. I know I won't convince you. Fighting a losing battle here. Plenty of other people can easily see that not playing the middle of the ice in the offensive zone is a longstanding issue. We're in first place -- barely -- because of a power play that had been playing out of its mind. We're in first place because Panarin did good things earlier and carried the team when Zibanejad was M.I.(K)A. even though his person was here.

If Chris Kreider's last name wasn't Kreider and he wasn't good at tipping pucks he'd be in the AHL

Let that percolate for a minute

He has the 5 on 5 game currently of a middle of the pack AHLer. Doesn't wanna skate, doesn't wanna hustle. Doesn't want to outwork guys on the boards, doesn't want to beat defensemen wide. Just wants to sit on front of the net on the PP and wave his stick at pucks.

Go back and look at his tape of the 50+ goal season. Completely different player. Infuriating because he's capable of so much more, just doesn't want to put in the work. That penalty he took on the PP was the spark that kicked off that absolute shit show of a third period.

And Jonny Brodz... this dude needs to be fired into the sun. He's f***ing awful. Can't hit the net. Can't handle the puck. Undersized, can't win board battles. He has a pulse and skates around fast, that's about it. Trade him or send him down, he has no future here

With apologies to The Who and all you Mods:

We'll be griping in our seats
With our children at our feet
And the heroes that we worship will be gone
And the men who we cheered on
Took the money now are gone
They decided it wasn’t worth it to be strong

I'll tip my hat to the new dissolution
Take a chance for the new infusion
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my remote and say
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

Vally said it and I have read it before. I'm not making it up. Do you have numbers to back up your point that it's been the same?

Jesus Christ. The takes in this thread. I don't even remember people being this angry in the Dark Ages post Gretzky.

The odds are certainly in your favor. I think this team will play better and have a better roster as they hopefully get healthy and make a trade or 2 at the deadline. People seem to think that this team with Brodzinski and leshitsyn on it and Bonino as 3C is going to be the same in 2 months. It's not.
