Machinehead
HFNYR MVP
I don't know, he had one good season here, but this is what he's been for awhile and mostly what he was in Ottawa. He's had bad underlying numbers for like 11 out of 13 seasons. Not sure if it was you who pointed out that early-Ranger Zibanejad actually attacked the slot, compared to the perimeter player he is now. Sure, the concussions might've made him have to play this way. Panarin has stopped attacking the slot like he did early in the season. I learned in work-related training that when something that has to be done does not come naturally, that person can maybe adapt and do it for a while, but it becomes exhausting for that person.
He's just not that good. He has skills with the puck on his stick but he needs a ring around him to use them. He can't do anything in tight spaces. Even if he had the willingness, he doesn't have the hands or the IQ. Unlike others, he's not fixable by changing the variables around him.
I would put him on the de facto "third" line with babysitters and just let him do his thing on the powerplay.
