"Start of the season" being the key phrase in that statement.
Keefe was 6-4-0 after game #23.

Yes, it is worded carefully so they can pump up Berube and have fans fondly thinking of departed coaches from the past that they love.I am assuming most coaches start mid-season because this is atrocious.
This is the exact reason I think he will win coach of the year. The hockey media is falling all over itself to praise Berube at every turn.A great example of how nothing has changed except the narrative from the media about the coach is JR on the podcast with Rosehill both Ga ga in love with “Chief” saying Berube calls out the stars….uh no! But believe it bc JR and and Rosehill say it about their buddy.
When he has the chance, like Matthews giveaway in OT and lack of recovery bc he extended his shift….Berube tippy toed around it by saying they needed to support him better (only other guy to blame was Marner for the change and Berube didn’t call him out either).
And tonight he’s praising Matthews after the game by focusing on the penalty he took by sticking up for Mitch.
The media just say things that are not true about Berube and you’re just supposed to ignore the facts and what you see and hear yourself.
This makes no sense. If the team doesn't play better, Berube has no shot. This is the exact reason I think he will win coach of the year. The hockey media is falling all over itself to praise Berube at every turn.
The team will play fine. It will get 105-110 points. This makes no sense. If the team doesn't play better, Berube has no shot.
With a better PP, add a couple of wins, with a worse 5x5, add a couple of losses. Not sure what your point is, all aspects of the teams play count and at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that we're 15th overall which is pretty bad.Leafs had been basically one of 2 o 3 best 5v5 team this season, where they clearly need to improve is on Special team
Just with a better PP, you can easily add 2 or 3 win...
I'm sure we'll be better than we have been, how much better remains to be seen. When do you figure we'll take over 1st place? Last year you said December, are your expectations higher because we're a better team this season? The team will play fine. It will get 105-110 points.

You can say that again. With kind of team leafs had, its not nornal they are last in the entire NHL on PP
But he does call them out and coaches them without backtracking.A great example of how nothing has changed except the narrative from the media about the coach is JR on the podcast with Rosehill both Ga ga in love with “Chief” saying Berube calls out the stars….uh no! My expectations are quite a bit higher, especially with how mediocre the Atlantic division is now.I'm sure we'll be better than we have been, how much better remains to be seen. So when do you figure we'll move into 1st place to stay?My expectations are quite a bit higher, especially with how mediocre the Atlantic division is now.

Then you go right ahead and have those, get as giddy as you like about them.My expectations are quite a bit higher, especially with how mediocre the Atlantic division is now.
Berube's a good coach in my books but I'm seeing not much different at all with the team nowadays. It's looking more and more like coaching wasn't gonna be some grand change that was gonna make the team ascend to the next level. It's still the same team - and they come and go as they please.
Berube could start by separating Marner and Matthews. Seems like the obvious move at this point. They're a loser core incapable of levelling up. Doesn't make them bad players, they just are what they are, it is what it is. I don't know what more evidence people could possibly need at this point.
Berube can only do so much.
This. So much this!!Berube could start by separating Marner and Matthews. Seems like the obvious move at this point.
If Marner’s brilliance is unmatched he should be able to get other guys on the team going, kind of what Willy does
since when does Marner not get his linemates going? It's his entire reason for existence. Nylander is far more of a solo artist.Berube could start by separating Marner and Matthews. Seems like the obvious move at this point.

Then he should have no problem going to another line and making it work. Willy went with Tavares and Patches and it seems to work, at least for nowsince when does Marner not get his linemates going? It's his entire reason for existence. Nylander is far more of a solo artist.
