Coyotes players refuse to play or re-sign?

The Coyotes have 22 draft picks in the first 3 rounds, over the next 3 drafts.

There's only so many prospects you can have and people you can have under contract. It's time to make use of some of those 2nd/3rd round picks and acquire some players via trades.

Keller, Schmaltz, Crouse, Hayton, Maccelli, McBain, Moser, Valimaki, Vejmelka.. They have enough young people and guys in their primes that deserve a competitive environment. When their prospects graduate over the next few years, it's better for them to jump in to a team that can play .500 hockey and not jump in to the laughing stock of the league.

These last couple years the management picked a clear direction in the summer, and that was full tank mode. You can only do it so many times before guys check out completely, and that time appears to be now.

If I was Keller, I'd feel the same way.

Imagine using the "I was hAcKeD!!!" excuse in 2023. And said hacker hacked his twitter for the sole purpose of...tweeting that Clayton doesn't want to play for the Coyotes anymore. And nothing else.

And them promptly gives the account back and stops hacking it.

Yeah. Okay there Mr. Keller.
Yeah. Reality is he probably had a couple beers and typed that up. Regretted the next day. It’s not even a big deal.

Guys with value get NMC’s because they want to have some control over where they play. That’s not really a possibility in Arizona right now. Even the guys that do want to stay in the Phoenix get no real guarantee. So it is what it is until this mess is resolved. Needs to be soon one way or another. Time to quit letting this franchise twist in the wind. Save them for good or end it.

Nothing like helicoptering parents on social media putting words on their millionaire adult kids’ mouths…

Bryan Keller definitely will not be playing with the Coyotes next season, so glad he’s making a stand!

It’s hilarious because he talks as if *he* is Clayton Keller. He doesn’t even say “Clayton thinks this…”. His quote is basically I’m dad and I’m mad and I’m gonna keep Clayton home from practice until you make me happy!
You might wanna check with Keith Tkachuk before disparaging helicoptering parents in the NHL.

If I were a player, for the Coyotes, I'd be pretty upset about this too. The fact that ownership was so badly outspent on the arena campaign by the opposition groups tells me they thought victory was assured. Now that they lost it seems like they are scrambling. This is a full on disaster scenario for the Coyotes organization.

This basically.

I don’t particularly buy the “my account was hacked” story. A person’s instant reaction, as told by a parent on Twitter, also doesn’t tell what their longer term actions would be.

But the players who committed to the team (Crouse, Keller, etc) were only willing to slum it in a NCAA arena because they were keeping their eye on the eventual prize of a Tempe arena opening in a few years.

If that’s gone, then there’s no reason to stay. There isn’t a backup plan in Arizona, they don’t have extra time to slap one together since they’re bleeding money in Mullett Arena.

This was always a bit sketchy, since doing it on a dump site involved more than knocking down some buildings, but players only got the upbeat dog and pony show sale pitches.

They want guys to stay, because they’re assets for when the team moves… somewhere, but this owner doesn’t deserve any of their faith. The GM can’t spend money if there isn’t any revenue.

That's not what I asked or suggested.

Do you believe Keller's dad when he says that he did not write the tweet and that he was hacked?

Speaking from personal experience… yes.

I was a remote volunteer staff member for AOL in the 80’s through the mid 2000’s and had my account breached twice in that time. In spite of taking precautions.

I was lucky in both instances that the person(s) who did it didn’t cause more damage than they did because I had access to some fairly powerful tools at the time.

Not to diminish your experience or the potential act of a troll, but I find Keller's dad hard to believe after reports of Keller meeting with management to discuss the future and as one of the few players with real clout in that organization. Keller would be insane not to consider what his father may have put forward. He's already been there seven years and is entering the crucial years of his career. He needs a serious direction.

What these players are forgetting is this is the NHL, which is the dream destination of almost every person who starts playing hockey.
If the players on the Coyotes NHL roster refuse to play, there are players around the world who will sign an NHL minimum contract to wear the jersey and play in the NHL. While they will not have the talent of the regular roster players, the will have the heart to play and give 100 percent of the talent they do have every shift.
Across the sports world, athletes who reach the highest level of that sport often place themselves before the sport. They forget they are payed well to play a game in front of fans who pay to see them perform at 100 percent every shift of every game. If they refuse to give the fans what the fans spend their hard earned money to watch, the fans will place pressure on management to bring in players who will.
Championships are awesome, but only one team in each sport can reach that high point. For the rest, giving the fans what they pay to come watch must be the goal. If a player/players do not want to do that, they have no one but themselves to blame if they open the door for others to fill their roster spot on a temporary basis, then play hard enough to take that roster spot on a permanent basis.

Nobody says it but certainly a lot of people are pushing it as legit. There in is the problem.
Do you think it's more likely than not that the dad was truly speaking about his son's feelings? That's all, just more likely or not, what do you think?

Kypreos said, last year (maybe before), the players were not happy. Just put the team in Quebec City - problem solved.

No it does not. Salary is only a portion of the players NHL income. How many endorsement deals do you think they get in a 5k beer league arena with less fans than my local AHL team? There has to be minimum facility requirements for the team which Arizona is certainly not meeting.
Only McDavid and a couple of other players make any appreciable amount on endorsements. A player like Keller isnt making anything important regardless of where he plays

This ain’t helping their Matthews efforts
Matthews was never going to Arizona. If he leaves TO it will be for LA.

The only way to FORCE a trade is to sit out. Hence no paycheck. You can request a trade and play but that is not the same and can take months for a resolution

That still doesn't risk your paycheck,, I can't recall a time a player requested a trade and wasn't paid.

I dont get what you are trying to say? The only way to FORCE a trade is to sit out and then you dont get paid. There have been lots of cases where a player REQUESTED a trade but was never traded. They were still paid after requesting a trade because they played and had not been traded. Im confused by your take?
