The goalie swap is strictly to make the cap work, both pending UFA's. 1/3 of season over we move a 3rd for that. Seems fair in the scope of the massive trade.

1st 2022 for Crouse. Physical top 9 winger. Pending RFA. An important add for depth especially if Holloway has to go to get Chychrun.

Holloway, Broberg and Safin for Chychrun. Chychrun and Nurse make Broberg expendable. I assume Holloway and Broberg have to be in the deal and add Safin on top. He's big, raw skilled, some decent potential there. Not off to a great start this season.

I'd drop Holloway and Crouse. We need Holloway to be a performer on his ELC and Crouse could price him out of Edmonton as early as this summer. We probably still have to add a bit, but not to the level of a first or A prospect.

Broberg + 2023 1st + a few months of Koskinen + 2nd + Lavoie = Chychrun + Wedgewood

But then we'd still need a goalie at TDL

Evidently he is one of the more overrated players in the league after basically 1 good half season....

Some of the asks in here are just crazy, more value than any trade in the past like 10 years.

Yes.

As discussed above almost no player like this has ever been traded in the cap Era. If you're of the opinion that last year was a mirage or that a 23 year old defenceman signed for 3 years under 5 million isn't an albatross, then another GM will outbid you. It's that simple.

That being said you seem to be combining different kinds of offers to strawman the point.

there is a gamble aspect, that you might be getting a top pairing Dman on a very low cap hit, and at term.

Reports (Friedman) are the ask has been "astronomical".

Definitely a gamble especially given his lack of track record being a top pairing guy and the obscene prices to aquire him

Cool, I wouldnt doubt the ask would be very high doesnt mean someone will be willing to pay it and astronomical is hard to gage compared to some of the asks/offers in this thread

Toronto can’t just take on Chychruns salary they need to send something back. I thought Nylander is still a good player to send back their way. Don’t think they want Marner and his cap. Matthews is a no go from Toronto POV.

Wouldn't trade Nylander alone for him. Leafs have Rielly and Muzzin (who has full NTC) on their left side. There is no room for him

Point still stands that his definition of astronomical is likely different from the asks in this thread. Plus GMs make stupid trades all the time. If he is traded for a haul like seen in this thread and it works out for the team trading for him I will be the first to admit I was wrong

That is a big statement though, no player has been traded like him in the cap era? The guy has 1 good half season essentially and is following it up with a pretty poor season. Just don't think that is true at all
