Confirmed with Link: Coyotes forfeit 2020 2nd round pick and a 2021 1st round pick for violating league’s combine testing

I know it’s easy to be bleak, but I am almost willing to bet that Alex Meruelo is happier with this punishment than he is having to pay out of pocket $250,000 per player. I don’t think this is what would push him over the edge in regards to relocating or selling the team.

This mostly sucks for the fans right now, and the scouting department. The new GM is going to have a hard time, but I’m sure any GM is up for the challenge to try and either make this team competitive or recoup the picks.

if we’re garbage for another eight years and we don’t have enough money to fund an arena in between that time, that’s when I would start worrying about relocation.

You absolutely need to wipe this thing top to bottom.

Raanta
Stepan
Grabner
Hammer
Demers
Goligoski
OEL
Kessel

Need to be traded for cheap ass contracts and picks. Even if you feel like you lose the trade, you need to do it just to get something back.

Dvo
Chychrun
Keller
Schmaltz
Kuemper

A few of these need to be traded for better contracts and better picks.

This is going to be a long ride back out of the pit of misery. But these moves will be necessary to replenish prospects

Why don't all you negative Nancy's pick another team to cheer for.

Why don't you tell us what we have to look forward to, with no draft picks of any worth for the next two or three years, Rick Tocchet as head coach, a captain who hates playing for us, and a country club in the locker room, with no cap flexibility to make trades for players of any sort of impact whatsoever - oh, and with a non-zero chance of getting Peter Chiarelli as our new GM because Bettman wants to give his pal a job?

I'm very interested to hear what you have to offer on this subject.

The team won't be competitive. Now is the time to dive to the salary floor and possibly even under for a few years Ottawa style.

Hitting the floor will legit be a challenge if the teardown happens.

The harder part will be keeping these guys interested while the team is hot garbage.

Kuemper should be traded tomorrow.

Does it say how many violations it is counted as, I assume Meruelo was asked if he would prefer to pay the fine?

(I don't blame him for saying this team just cost to much right now.)

Someone remind me - do we not also lose our 2021 1st if we resign Hall? And if so, does that mean we lose our 2022 1st to comply with this penalty?

The conditions were that the 2021 3rd upgrades to a 2nd if we win a playoff round* OR we re-sign Hall. It would have upgraded to a 1st if we win two playoff rounds.

*-the play-in round did not count as a playoff round for the purposes of conditional picks.

If you don't like what you see, go elsewhere. There is no piano tied to your ass. When it gets tough the tough get going. This hurts but it's far from the end of the world. Now, maybe Meruelo knows we need the best GM and coach available to get us thru the next few years.

oh I agree, I’m just saying those are the 2 options the new GM will be faced with. Chances are, they will take the path of least resistance.

I just don’t agree Meruelo is losing his shit over this. If it were money, it would be money wasted. Purely given away. At least with draft picks, they can be “acquired.” I’m sure he’s happy to not be paying millions of real dollars for someone else’s f*** up.

Losing draft picks really only sucks for the fans and the scouts, and makes for a tall task for whichever GM decides to take this position.

I don’t want Sullivan to be our new GM, especially now, but we may have no choice. Who signs up for this? Nothing against Sully but too inexperienced to come in cold and put all the pieces together - and if he endorsed the testing or turned a blind eye to it? What’s to become of him?

Yeah, we do. They independently worked out up to 20 players prior to the combine, which is a huge league violation. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Ok, I did not know that. I thought it was watching players during a work out, not independently for the Coyotes sole benefit. I never heard that it was 20 players either. Do you have a link for this?

Well you can look forward to picking very high in top loaded 2022 and 2023 drafts.

And there's always the remote chance #34 comes home.

How about instead of punishing the fans who did nothing wrong they hit Chayka with a massive fine? Would anyone else be on-board with that?
How are you going to collect? He should be barred from employment with any involvement with the NHL. Not sure if that is legal or not.
