That's who the Kings lost to, at home. But, the Coyotes are also now 7-3-1 in their last 11 games. Another recently not so great game for Budaj. Carter was in the area, but that was a seriously lazy pass by Martinez on the PP. Just can't do that.

Still 9th in the standings, and 8th in points%, so the loss isn't the end of the world. It didn't really change anything. Plus it was what seems to be the dreaded bye week game.

23rd in regulation wins
21st in regulation losses

That's where the Kings are. It's just 1 game, but when you're in the bottom 10 in regulation, and on the edge of the playoffs, every point counts.

In the last 3 home games against the Coyotes, the Kings are 0-3, and have been outscored 12-6. While, of course, outshooting the Yotes 120-69. At 5v5, they've been outscored 10-3.

Kopitar, Doughty, and Carter in those 3 games? A combined 0 goals, 4 assists. Doughty and Carter with 1 assist each at 5v5.

Hanzal, 2 goals, 4 points.
Ekman-Larsson, 1 goal, 3 points.
Rieder, 2 goals, 4 points.
Martinook, 2 goals, 4 points.

showed up to the game a few minutes late and the Kings were already down 2-0. pretty ****** effort through the first period but the Kings picked it up in the 2nd. lots of players looked sluggish and to compound that, Budaj couldnt make the necessary saves. pretty big let down but I was 100% expecting a crap performance after an entire week off. on to Saturday!

We might be screwed this weekend with Budaj coming back to earth fast, and probably having to play Zatkoff due to the back2back....

So are we back to hating the kings again? I can never tell. Kings win, we hate them. Kings win a few in a row and we love them again. Then they lose one and it's back to hate? Yes? I miss the 90's when we loved them no matter how craptastic they were.

some people have a hard time accepting the ups and downs especially after being spoiled with 2 cups in 3 years but I will always love this team, even when they are sucking. heck, its either the Kings or the Ducks and I dont think theres anything the Kings org could do that would make me question my loyalty. we've been through much darker periods than this!

Wanted to say Martinez was awful last night, but that would be giving him too much praise

You can love the team and love being a fan of the team without agreeing with every move they make.

Damn, Sutter was NOT a fan of Budaj last night

"Sutter, on Anze Kopitar referencing “mistakes” behind 18 goals against in the last four games:
It’s goaltending. … Kopi cares about it, right? There are mistakes every shift. There are. Goaltending takes care of all that. Look at those games where they scored five goals. What were the shots against? What we call Grade-As, we’re giving up like friggin’ eight or nine Grade-As a game. It doesn’t bother me. Guys like Kopi are saying it, they friggin’ care. They’re used to winning, they take pride in it. You know what? They friggin’ take pride in winning 3-2, 2-1. They take great pride in that, right? Don’t look back at those other games. I said it – we’re not in Washington’s class in terms of goal scoring, so your goaltending’s got to be as good as theirs. Don’t look at that stuff, that’s [road apples], right? Guys that say that, they care what the outcome is. I think that last night, the friggin’ first goal, the third goal and the fourth goal should just kill you. They should just kill you. It gives them a 1-0 lead, third goal after we’re down 2-1, another [road apples] goal, 3-1, friggin’ [road apples] shorthanded goal, friggin’ four straight. It kills you. It kills your momentum. Give these guys credit, not throw ‘em up. The team’s as good as the goalie behind ‘em, and the goalie’s as good as the team in front of him. We need it every night, not every other night. We need better goaltending to be a better team, very simple. Very clear. Very clear. Everything else is not relevant. Friggin’ we’ve got a bunch of kids on defense and we’re not a high powered team up front, so where’s it coming from? If he’s such an important player – everybody says ‘well, those players have [inaudible] this year – then they should show it."

Oh how I miss him.

god, do I ever miss him. I keep saying this but we've gotten really lucky in the past with Bernier/Jones and Scrivens. dont get me wrong, Ive come to love Budaj and really respect what he's been able to do, but he single handedly deflated the team last night with those diarrhea-ish goals he let in. Quick isnt a stranger to softies either but they are few and far between. cant wait till hes back

Yeah, Quick gave up softies here and there but the thing that truly rarely happened was those disheartening goals that give up momentum. Quick can give up 3-4 goals early in a game, but if the Kings start coming back, he's always been great at locking it down.

Sutter is not a fan of Budaj. Even in Budaj's excellent games Sutter is dismissive of him. C'est la vie.

ETA: in other words, Budaj will find it easier than ever before to go to the bathroom, because Coach Sutter just ripped him a new one.

Should have claimed Khudobin when he was on waivers, at least he would've been a guaranteed upgrade over Zatkoff.

I was sitting 6 rows behind Budaj and after that short handed goal Sutter was clearly glaring at Budaj for quite awhile.

I can't rag on Budaj too much. He is what he is and has kept LA in the running for a spot this year.

He's not Quick.

Not even close. The team knows when a big stop is needed, Quick will be there. With Budaj, I think it's about 70-30 he will. Sutters right, Budaj cost the team the game with those momentum killing softies. And another thing, WTF was Martinez doing when he threw that blind pass up the middle on the pp during a change? He could've just skated it back and started up the ice again. He's as much as at fault as Budaj was on that shorty.

I don't think it's possible that Gabo can play worse, the guy is nonexistent on the ice.

Dustin Brown has already reached 27 points, he only scored 28 last season.

Good for Brown.

Kopitar/Toffoli both looked like they couldn't keep up with Kempe. Both looked lazy the entire game.

This will be unpopular because he's everyone's favorite right now, but that was on Carter, as well. Marty made eye contact with him, wound up for the pass, then Carter slumped and went to the bench. It was still a bad pass to nowhere but there was at least a thought behind it, Carter was showing no indication of giving up on the play until Marty had made his decision.

If it was Kopitar in place of Carter, he would have atleast looked at where the puck went because everyone was on a change. It's just one of those plays where one mistake led to another and then to another. Can't put the blame solely on Martinez or Budaj there. All three were at fault.

No, when you're on the PP and the other team takes a slapshot from outside the dot, that's 100% on the goalie.

Even Budaj knows that.
