AT said he will tell the players to forget the past that this will be a fresh start. So, who knows.
They hire a coach and celebrate that he’s great bringing the kids along. The two won a world championship together with Hayton Captaining the team and leading scoring. Who knows, but my money’s on the kid getting a chance.

I got what I expected out of that. They're going to work out a contract with Garland and OEL will be traded if they get good value. He called OEL an elite defenseman and our captain multiple times. I'm not expecting him to get dumped for what most of the crowd on this board thinks.
Most, or the squeaky wheels? Good to see some aren’t falling victim to the repetition.

He should, team was better with Hayton in the lineup.

Craig Morgan and the Marty Hatty also agree.

Pretty much everyone capable of being objective recognizes how awful OEL has been the last three years. Any trade is banking on him bouncing back with a fresh start. That's a lot of contract to take on for a 'maybe'.

He’s got value of net zero. If Loui Eriksson is worth a negative 2nd rounder then OEL is worth Loui Eriksson and a 2nd rounder.

OEL can't shield Hughes at all and it's the last year of the Eriksson deal. Wouldn't touch that if I was Benning.

I cut my response short. They’d have to also balance it out with some additional net zeroes like Tyler Myers and Antoine Roussel. Where it not only upgrades their D, but also provided cap relief to upgrade at wing.

OEL and Fischer for Myers, Roussel, Eriksson(buyout) and 40th overall.

Benning is a slow start away from never being an NHL GM again. OEL buys him time. Gets him a brand name. Gets the base excited. Plus that saved cap space gets his head out of a noose on multiple bad deals. Allows him to sign another shiny toy. That second rounder is four years away if it ever even turns out. He’s on a shorter timeline. Benning would jump at such a trade. Solved short term problems for a short term GM.

Taking on Myers is rough even with the cash saved with his bonus paid. I'd prefer someone that won't play, like Moore.

OEL + something for DeBrusk, Moore is still my preferred exit plan.

I guess I’m one of the few that are capable of being objective that sees all the little things he does that are exceptional.

Also, I really wouldn’t be opposed to doing OEL and Fischer for Moore and DeBrusk and then just exposing DeBrusk to Seattle. Effectively just dumping OEL clean. Would feel great.

I think they could dump DeBrusk for free if they wanted now and just LTIR Moore. I don't think it solves enough for them to pull the trigger unless they're absolutely in love with OEL.

I would send Kuemper to Boston for their warm body AHL goalie (Booth) in a deal. They will lose one of Gryz, Lauzon, Carlo in the expansion draft so maybe they figure out a deal with one of those guys coming the other way.

I’d be thrilled with Kuemper for Lauzon. Would retain 50% to get that done. If it means we could do OEL and Fischer for DeBrusk and Moore, that’s great. And like I said, I’d be fine with potentially losing DeBrusk to Seattle.

You hit the nail on the head there. I'm sure what ever team gets OEL will have enough sense to pair him with a more than capable NHL'er, not some last man standing type player.

Read the trade board threads. It's definitely most. Not just our board. It's the opinion of most on HF Boards in general.
Most time HF boards fans and media are wrong. All I know if BA trades Kessel, OEL and Kuemper for the crap that is being mentioned here we are going to be in a lot of hurt for years to come.

I don’t think OEL is bad. I think he’s a very serviceable top four D. And I think he’s going to rebound and get better on a new team. He’s just 29 already and he’s making 32 million in cash over the next three years and then is signed to three more after that. So it’s a double-whammy. He crushes our budget in the lean years and then crushes our cap when hopefully we’re trying to compete. He’s just a really bad fit.

And there's a reason for it. Given Garland's age, it's hard to see him filling a role when the Coyotes are ready to compete in 4 or 5 years. That is, if they are really going to do a total rebuild. I could see Garland as a gap player, who bridges the rebuild and leaves just when the Coyotes are ready to seriously compete. We need those players on the ice, if for no other reason than that season ticket holders have to be given something, someone to make them want to schlep to the arena.

OEL needs a fresh start. I think that most of us agree on this point. It's not that he's lost all of his ability. It's that the wrist and lower body injuries have impacted his mobility, for one, and his vaunted wrist shot, for another. He's good. He's no longer exceptional. Perhaps a new coach and team will allow him to become exceptional once more.
